REDDIES TO OPEN GAC TOURNAMENT PLAY AGAINST HARDING

Henderson State opens Great American Conference Tournament play Saturday against Harding with the first pitch set for 7 p.m. at David Allen Ballpark in Enid, Okla.
 
Henderson State enters the Great American Conference Tournament with a 24-17 record overall and is the No. 4 seed in this year's field.
 
The Reddie offense has a .287 batting average and averages 5.5 runs per game.
 
Jordan Taylor leads the team offensively with a .374 average which includes 10 doubles and 25 RBI. Taylor hit for a .391 average during conference play. The sophomore from Bryant, Ark. has compiled 16 multiple hit games and enters the tournament having reached base safely in 18 straight games.
 
Claude Johnson follows Taylor and is the power-hitter for the Reddies. The senior from Pine Bluff has a .351 average with a team best 11 doubles, 8 home runs and 34 RBI. Five of his home runs have come against GAC opponents and he has a .385 average in league contests. Johnson has totaled 16 multiple hit games and had a 14 game hitting streak earlier this season. Johnson has reached base safely 24 straight games entering the GAC Tournament.
 
Also hitting above .300 is Lance Fields who sports a .318 average with 10 doubles and four long balls. Fields is also a threat to steal as he is a perfect 9-for-9 this year.

Henderson State pitching has improved tremendously from last year as the Reddies have a 4.02 ERA this season compared to a 5.63 ERA in 2014.
 
The Reddie pitching rotation includes Colton Lorance in the opener followed by Chris Hunt, Cody Jones .
 
Lorance has a 4-3 record with a 3.58 ERA this season.
 
Jones has won his last three starts including a 2-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist week. The senior from Texarkana, Texas has limited opponents to a .231 batting average.
 
Hunt enters the GAC Tournament with a 4-3 record and a 3.19 ERA. The sophomore from Greenwood, Ark. has struckout 35 batters in 68 innings of work while limiting the opposition to a .233 average.
 
Jones has been Henderson's game three starter and has a 5-2 record on the year including a 4-1 record against GAC opponents.   

The senior from Phoenix, Ariz. leads the Reddies in strikeouts having fanned 48 batters in 52.1 innings.           

Nick Vanthillo is Henderson's closer having a 5-1 record with 9 saves on the year. Vanthillo has a 1.67 ERA and has strucjout 30 batters in 32.1 innings.
 
Harding enters the tournament with a 26-23 record finishing third in the GAC standings.

The Reddies won two of three games from the Bisons earlier in the season.
