Reddies Roll To 40-7 Win Over Southern Nazarene

Henderson State extended the nation's longest road winning streak to 26 games as the Reddies cruised to a 40-7 win over Southern Nazarene, Saturday in Bethany, Okla.

Henderson, 8-2 on the season, would score touchdowns on four of its first six possessions to build a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Reddies took the opening kickoff and quickly moved downfield with Jeremy Wilson scoring on an 8-yard run. Andrew Black would complete all five passes during the drive for 53 yards to set up the score.

Henderson went to its ground game on the next drive as Robert Thomas scored on a 1-yard dive. Wilson had runs of 19 and 12 yards as the Reddies went 76 yards on 11 plays.

Al Lasker added to Henderson's lead with a 21-yard touchdown reception from Black early in the second quarter.

Black would close out the half with a 42-yard scoring toss to Zacari Lavender.

Henderson increased its lead to 30-0 as the Reddies recorded their third safety in two weeks when SNU had difficulties with a punt snap that went through the back of the end zone.

Wilson scored his second touchdown of the game with a short 3-yard run to cap off an 11-play, 53-yard drive following the safety.

Houston Ray tacked on a 29-yard field goal late in the third quarter for Henderson's final score.

Black had another strong performance as the sophomore from Tyler, Texas completed his first 15 passes and finished 22-of-24 for 253 yards and a pair of
touchdowns. Black had a quarterback rating of 199.4.

Evan Lassiter entered the game midway through the third quarter and finished the day completing 6-of-11 passes for 92 yards.

A total of 12 receivers caught passes for Henderson with Lasker leading the way with seven catches for 79 yards, while Lavender had a pair of receptions for 46 yards.

Wilson led the ground game with 9 rushes for 64 yards, with Black carrying the ball 11 times for 59 yards.
 
The Henderson defense was superb as the Storm managed just two first downs and 13 total yards of offense through three quarters. In fact SNU did not cross midfield until the fourth quarter when Jacob Spady connected with Trevor Smith for a 53-yard touchdown with 10:31 to play in the game.

The Reddies totaled eight tackles for lost yardage with Josh Davis leading the way with six stops including two for loss.

Darius Thomas had four tackles and an interception, with Gary Vines also recording an interception.

Henderson finished with 543 yards of offense while SNU was limited to 157 yards with 144 yards coming in the final quarter.

The Reddies will come home for the final game of the regular-season as Henderson plays host to Ouachita Baptist in the 90th version of the Battle of the Ravine. Game is set for Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium/Ruggles Field with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

Tickets will be on sale Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Henderson State Athletic Department located at the Duke Wells Center room 108. Only cash and check payments will be taken. Credit card purchases need to go through the Womack Business Office window (3rd Floor Womack) from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children (K-12). All seating is general admission. Henderson State Students, Faculty and Staff will receive free entry with I.D. as will Ouachita Baptist students with valid student I.D.   

The Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Department also has an allotment of 1,000 tickets available for purchase in advance.  

Tickets can also be purchased on game day at the Carpenter-Haygood Stadium/Ruggles Field ticket windows beginning at 10 a.m. on game day with the gates opening at 11 a.m.
