Reddies Make Final Basketball Trip To Oklahoma

Henderson State will take its final regular-season road trip to Oklahoma this weekend beginning with a Thursday matchup against East Central in Ada, Okla. with tip off set for 7:30 p.m.

Henderson got back in the win column last Saturday with a 72-59 victory over Oklahoma Baptist. The Reddies shot 52 percent from the field in the second half to overcome a 32-30 halftime deficit. Henderson forced 20 OBU turnovers which led to 27 points for the Reddies. 
 
For the third straight game, Kaylon Tappin led the Reddies in scoring with 13 points against the Bison which included making 9-of-11 free throws. Tappin leads the team averaging 14.2 points per contest while shooting 45 percent from the field
.
Kevin Kozan totaled 11 points on Saturday and is now averaging 13.6 points per contest. Kozan scored 20 points in the first game against the Tigers.
 
Aaron Cooper came off the bench and played 17 minutes scoring 12 points. Cooper has played seven games this season and is averaging 9.6 points.
 
Tavian Pomlee is also scoring in double-figures averaging 10.1 points per game.           

East Central returns home after a three game road swing and enters Thursday's contest with a 13-6 record overall and a 9-4 mark in GAC play.
 
The Tigers are coming off a 90-79 win at Arkansas-Monticello last Saturday in a game that saw East Central shoot 57 percent from the field (34-of-60) and 53 percent from 3-point range (9-of-17).
 
East Central is the top offensive team in the GAC averaging 83.3 points per game, while shooting 46.9 percent from the field which is second best.         

Stirling Thomas averages 19.8 points per game and leads the GAC. Thomas scored 33 points in the first game against the Reddies this year.     

Braxton Reeves follows averaging 15.4 points per contest which includes shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc making 57-of-135 attempts. Reeves scored 12 against the Reddies in December.    

Ishmael Donzo also averages in double-figures with 10.4 points.    

Henderson State leads the all-time series with the East Central having a 12-9 advantage in a series which dates back to 1957. The Tigers have won the last three meetings. The Reddies won the first six games against ECU in the GAC era and are 6-3 against the Tigers all-time in league play.

Last time the two teams met was back on Dec. 3, 2015 as the Tigers beat the Reddies 68-64 in the Duke Wells Center.
It was a game of streaks for the Reddies as they would rally several times before falling victim late to some cold shooting as Henderson managed to make one of 11 shots from the field in the final four minutes.

The Domino's pregame show will air 5:15 p.m. with the women's game set for 5:30 p.m.
