Reddies Hit the Road to Face Oklahoma Baptist

Henderson State travels to Oklahoma for the second time this season as the Reddies take on Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday in Shawnee, Okla. with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
 
Henderson is attempting to extend its NCAA Division II record road win streak to 29 games while OBU is looking for its first win in 2017.
 
Oklahoma Baptist enters Saturday's contest with a 0-5 record following a 56-27 loss to Southern Arkansas last weekend.

The Reddies will have to contend with a passing unit that ranks second in the GAC averaging 253.6 yards per contest.

OBU uses a two quarterback system with Preston Haire and Dezmond Stegall sharing the duties.
 
Haire leads the team with 167 yards passing per game, having completed 62-of-106 passes for 835 yards and 7 touchdowns.  Haire tied a school record and set an NCAA-era high with four touchdown passes last week against SAU.
 
Stegall has thrown for 423 yards completing 39-of-79 attempts. The senior from Searcy, Ark. completed 17-of-37 passes for 263 yards against Henderson a year ago.
 
Isaiah Mallory leads the Bison ground game averaging 95 yards per game including four touchdowns this season. Mallory did not play last week due to injury but is expected to return. Last year against the Reddies, the junior from Aledo, Texas rushed for 58 yards on 22 attempts while having four receptions for 98 yards.        


Six OBU receivers have totaled 100-plus yards this season with Cagney Roberson leading the team with 18 receptions for 226 yards and three touchdown catches. Alex Lewis has 17 catches for a team-best 303 yards averaging 60.6 yards per game.
 
On the defensive side of the football, OBU is last in the GAC allowing 515.4 yards and 57.0 points per contest. Opponents are averaging 274.8 passing yards per game against the Bison.
 
Linebackers Josh Arnold and Josh Redmond lead the Bison with Arnold having 40 tackles while Redmond has 39. 
 
Safeties Anthony Figueroa and Dante Foster have been very active for the Bison and both have 28 tackles this season. Figueroa has collected 28 stops with an interception and two pass breakups, while Foster has 28 stops along with a team-high four tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup.

The Reddies totaled a season-high 461 yards of offense last week in their loss to Southern Nazarene. For the second straight week, Henderson went over 300 yards passing with a season-high 318 yards.

Henderson used two quarterbacks last week with Evan Lassiter making his third career start. The senior from Coral Springs, Fla. completed 26-of-45 passes for 276 yards running his yearly total to 653 yards on 62-of-107 passing attempts. Last year against OBU, Lassiter completed 17-of-26 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Andrew Black was 3-of-4 for 42 yards and rushed for 55 yards on 11 attempts scoring a pair of touchdowns. Black leads Henderson in rushing having 234 yards this season including six touchdowns. The junior from Tyler, Texas completed 14-of-27 passes for 351 yards and five touchdowns a year ago against the Bison.
 
Freshmen Cecil Langston had a career-high 71 yards rushing on 12 attempts against Southern Nazarene. The native of Luxora, Ark. averages 5.1 yards per carry.
 
Austin Bennett was Henderson's top receiver against SNU with 84 yards on five catches. The senior from Marvel, Texas has 15 receptions for 185 yards this season and averages 12.3 yards per catch.
 
Ben Johnson leads the Reddie receivers with 20 receptions for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The junior from Sapulpa, Okla. had three catches for 151 yards last year against OBU including touchdown receptions of 73 and 58 yards.
 
The Henderson defense allows 369.8 yards per game, fifth in the league.
 
Malik Brown continues to lead the team with 38 tackles. The junior defensive back from Huntsville, Texas has three interceptions and three pass break-ups.
 
Sheldon Watson picked off his GAC leading fourth pass of the year last week and has collected 35 tackles along with a forced fumble and two breakups.

Saturday will mark the third time that Henderson State and Oklahoma Baptist will face one another. Last year the Reddies totaled a season-high 785 yards of offense as the Reddies beat Oklahoma Baptist 67-21.           
 
Henderson is making its second of three trips to Oklahoma this weekend. The Reddies have won 14 straight against Oklahoma opponents in games played in the Sooner State. The last loss came in Durant, Okla. on Aug. 26, 2009 when Southeastern Oklahoma beat the Reddies 54-38. Henderson is 14-1 in games played in Oklahoma since becoming a NCAA Division II member in 1993. 
 
The Reddies are looking for some big plays offensively.  Henderson has totaled just five offensive plays of 30 yards or more including a best 72-yard pass play from Andrew Black to Crissean Williams Caver in the season opener against Harding. The Reddies had two 30-yard plus offensive plays in the wins over Harding and Southwestern Oklahoma. The fifth 30-yard plus play came last week against Southern Nazarene of 37 yards.       
 
The Henderson State Sports Network will broadcast Saturday's game with 106.9 FM KYXK in Arkadelphia being the flagship station.

In addition, affiliates 99.7 FM KWPS which covers Hot Springs, as well as 100.9 KDEL in Arkadelphia and KZYP 1310 AM and 104.1 FM in Malvern. The game can also be heard on 920 AM, The Sports Animal in Little Rock.
