ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Following their rout of Ecclesia on Tuesday night, Henderson State heads back on the road for its first true road game of the season when the Reddies take on the Mississippi College Choctaws at 4 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi.
Henderson State (3-0) ran past Ecclesia in their home opener 103-61, shooting 52.1 percent as a team, with four players scoring in double digits. The Reddies had 34 fast break points, many of which were highlights dunks as HSU broke the century mark for the first time this season.
Rel Johnson led Henderson with 21 points, and after making his only 3-point attempt, is now 7-for-7 from outside this season.
Eric Dailey had a career high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added six rebounds and four assists.
Anthony Lupardus had 18 points and a game-high four 3-pointers, while big man
Terrence Parker had the lone double-double of the night with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Scouting Mississippi College
The Mississippi College Choctaws have played four games this season, but their record is just 1-1, as two of those four were exhibition matchups against Division I schools. The Choctaws played Nicholls State, and most recently Auburn, who beat the Choctaws 103-52 on Nov. 14. In his 15th season, MC head coach Don Lofton brings back a formidable inside-outside duo in forward Brandon Boston and point guard Dyllan Taylor. Boston and Taylor have combined for 34 points per game this season, while Boston leads the team in rebounds with nine per game and Taylor has the team lead in assists with 12 in just two contests. Boston is coming off of a successful sophomore season in which he averaged 14.6 points per game while shooting 54.9 percent from the floor. The Reddies also must slow down the Choctaws' combo guard Donovan Ham. Ham has scored efficiently this season, averaging 17.5 points per game on 52.2 percent shooting. He averaged 14.7 points per game in his first year for the Choctaws after transferring from Georgia Highlands College. So far this season, the achilles heel for the Choctaws has been their three-point shooting. MC is 12-for-42 from 3-point range in its two official contests, good for just 28.6 percent from beyond the arc. Mississippi College is looking for its first winning season in the Gulf South Conference since the 2012-13 campaign.
