ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will look to duplicate last season's success against Arkansas Tech when the Reddies face the Wonder Boys on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Russellville, Arkansas.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (4-2, 0-1) is looking to get back on track after a tough loss in its GAC opener on Thursday night to Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. SAU beat the Reddies 94-71 and held HSU to just 39.4 percent shooting in the game. The Muleriders shot 50 percent from the field and hit 12 3-pointers.
-
Chris Parker was one of the lone bright spots on Thursday as he gave Henderson a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Parker leads the Reddies in scoring this season with 13.3 points per game and has scored in double figures in four of the team's first six contests.
Raekwon Rogers also played well against SAU, turning in 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds off of the bench. Outside of Parker and Rogers, the rest of the team was 13-for-44 from the field against the Muleriders (22.8 percent).
- The Reddies are attempting to avoid their first 0-2 start in conference play since the 2015-16 season when they opened the GAC schedule 0-3 in Elgas' first season at the helm.
- Two of HSU's nine GAC wins last season came against Arkansas Tech. The Reddies defeated the Wonder Boys 106-96 in Arkadelphia, then won 83-75 in Russellville. The season sweep of ATU was Henderson's first since 2006-07. The Reddies shot over 48 percent from the field in the two wins over Tech.
- As a team, Henderson is ninth in the GAC in scoring offense (79.8 points per game) and fifth in scoring defense (72.5 points per game). The Reddies have the second-best 3-point percentage defense in the conference and have allowed opponents to connect on just 50-of-158 tries from beyond the arc this season (31.6 percent).
SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
- Arkansas Tech enters Saturday's contest 2-3 on the year and 0-1 in the GAC after dropping its opener to Ouachita Baptist 86-81 on Thursday in Arkadelphia. Saturday's showdown with the Reddies is ATU's first home game of the season.
- Sophomore guard R.J. Glasper leads the Wonder Boys offensively with 22.8 points per game, which is third-most in the GAC and also averages a team-high 5.8 assists per game. Glasper, who transferred from Arkansas last season, was the 2017-18 GAC Freshman of the Year.
- ATU averages a league-best 41.6 boards per game but is last in the GAC in rebounding defense, allowing 38.1 rebounds per game.
- Tech lives and dies behind the 3-point line and has shot 186 3-pointers in five games at a 33.7 percent clip. The Wonder Boys shot 43 3-pointers against OBU and made 17.
