GAME NOTES
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State, fresh off of two wins last weekend, will make the short trek across Highway 67 on Thursday night to take on rival Ouachita Baptist at 7:30 p.m. in Bill Vining Arena.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (10-5, 5-4) had their best shooting game of the season as a team last Thursday in the win over Northwestern Oklahoma State (53.7 percent) and, oddly enough, followed it up with their worst shooting game of the season on Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State (31.8 percent) but still picked up a 70-62 win.
- Henderson's leading scorer,
Rel Johnson, averages just 12.5 points per game, but the scoring this season has come from a variety of places for the Reddies, as seven different players average more than 8.5 points per game this season.
- HSU is the second-best offensive rebounding team in the Great American Conference and averages 13.2 offensive boards in conference play.Â
-
Raekwon Rogers and
Mike Fofana both finished with double-doubles in the win over SWOSU, which marked the first time since Dec. 5, 2013, that two Reddies both had double-doubles in the same game. Rogers had 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, 10 of which were on the offensive end, while Fofana added 11 points and 10 boards.
- Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist's collision on Thursday night is the 207th meeting all-time between the two schools in basketball. The Reddies have played the Tigers more than any other opponent in program history. OBU leads the all-time series 107-99, which dates back to 1912-13. A win on Thursday would be HSU's 100th victory against Ouachita. The teams have split the season series each of the last two years.
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- Ouachita Baptist enters Thursday's contest 6-6 on the year and 3-5 in GAC action. The Tigers have won back-to-back league games for the first time this season after defeating NWOSU and SWOSU last weekend. OBU is led by head coach Dennis Nutt, who is 107-90 at the school in seven seasons.
- Senior guard Mahlon Martin leads OBU in scoring (15.8 points per game) and is shooting just under 48 percent from the 3-point line this season. He has hit a 3-pointer in every game this year for the Tigers. Sophomore Matt Stanley leads Ouachita in rebounding with five per game and averages 8.3 points per contest.
- As a team, Ouachita Baptist ranks first in the GAC in 3-point shooting (38.4 percent) and fourth in field goal percentage defense (41 percent for opponents), however, the Tigers struggle offensively and on the glass, where they are last in the league in scoring offense (68.2 points per game) and rebounding offense (33.1 per game).
