ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- After falling on Thursday night, Henderson State faces a tough road test on Saturday against No. 14 Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. in Bethany, Oklahoma.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (8-4, 3-3) fell on Thursday night in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Oklahoma Baptist 89-77. The Bison went on an 18-5 run five minutes into the second half and although Henderson trimmed the lead down to 10 points, it was unable to rally all the way back. HSU was led by
Joshua Jones, who had a season-high 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field.
Rel Johnson added 14 points while both
Tanner Hamilton and
Anthony Lupardus had 11.
- Henderson boasts seven players who average eight or more points so far this season. Johnson is the team's scoring leader (13.3 points per game) and
Chris Parker is close behind him (12.2 points per game).
Mike Fofana leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 per contest.
- As a team, HSU is fourth in the Great American Conference in field goal percentage defense and is holding league opponents to just 42.2 percent shooting from the floor. The Reddies are also the second-best offensive rebounding team in the conference thus far and average 13 offensive boards per game.
- Henderson is currently in eighth place in the GAC standings, but are two full games ahead of ninth-place Ouachita Baptist and just one game back of a cluster of three teams tied for fifth overall.Â
- Saturday is the 19th meeting all-time between the two schools. SNU leads the series 11-8, won both matchups last season, and has won three-straight overall over Henderson.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- The Crimson Storm come into Saturday's game 11-2 overall and 4-1 in the GAC. SNU is the No. 14 team in the country according to the latest NABC poll and has climbed as high as No. 4 in the nation this season under 11th-year head coach Adam Bohac, who led them to the GAC regular season and tournament title in 2017-18.
- SNU has a trio of difference-makers beginning with reigning GAC Player of the Year Jhonathan Dunn, who averages 18.3 points per game. Dunn is joined in the backcourt by Micah Speight, an All-GAC First Team selection last season, who averages 14.2 points and 5.7 assists per game. Noah Starkey, the Storm's 6'11 center, is the reigning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and averages 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 55.7 percent from the field this season.
- As a team, SNU leads the GAC in turnover margin (+5.4) and is third in the league in scoring defense against conference opponents, allowing just 69.2 points per game.
