Henderson Hosts Mississippi College Friday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After going 1-1 in its opening weekend of play in Lancaster, Texas, Henderson State returns for its home opener on Friday evening when the Reddies host Mississippi College at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson faced two teams who each won 20-plus games last weekend in Texas — Newman and Rogers State. The Reddies' won their season opener over the Jets 67-60 but got into a big hole early and fell to RSU 82-70 on Saturday.

- Chris Parker led the Reddies in scoring in each of the first two contests. The junior from Plano, Texas, had 21 points against Newman and followed it up with 18 against Rogers State. For the weekend, Parker was 6-for-13 from the 3-point line, including a 4-for-4 mark against the Jets.

- HSU was out-rebounded by 20 rebounds total in its first two games, but the Reddies were +25 in turnovers, forcing their opponents into 49 while committing just 24 themselves. Henderson also struggled with cold shooting in Texas and shot just 37.2% from the floor and 9-for-38 from beyond the arc. 

- The Reddies proved just how deep a team they have in their opening weekend, as nine different players averaged over 10 minutes per game and a 10th averaged 9.5 minutes in the two contests. Through two games, Henderson has four players averaging double figures in points. 

- Under head coach Jimmy Elgas, HSU is 3-1 in home openers at the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies have won their last three dating back to 2016. Henderson fell to Mississippi College 78-73 last season in Clinton, Mississippi. 

SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
- Mississippi College comes into Friday's contest 2-1 on the season. The Choctaws have played five games this season, but two were exhibitions against DI Southern Miss and Ole Miss. 

- The Choctaws defeated the Reddies early last season, but struggled over the remainder of the year and finished with a 7-18 record, including a 4-16 mark in the Gulf South Conference. 

- Through its first three official games, MC has been led by junior guard Winceton Edwards, who is averaging 22.3 points per game on 54.1% shooting from the floor. Edwards is also shooting 52.9% from 3-point range through three games (9-for-17).

- A high scoring offense, Mississippi College is averaging 81.3 points per game so far this season and have been scorching from beyond the arc, where the Choctaws are 27-of-55 (49.1%) as a team.
