Henderson Treks to UAM for Clash with Weevils

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will aim to get back to winning ways when it travels to Monticello, Arkansas on Saturday to take on UAM at 4 p.m. in Steelman Fieldhouse.

REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (6-2, 2-1) dropped their first GAC contest of the year in what was also their first true road game of the season last Saturday 89-77 at Harding. The Bisons hit 13 3-pointers in the win and were able to hold off HSU despite Henderson shooting nearly 61% from the field in the second half. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Reddies.

- Henderson's defense has been a point of pride so far this season. The Reddies are No. 1 in the GAC and No. 8 in all of NCAA DII in field goal percentage defense (38% shooting for opponents). HSU is also second in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 68 points per game. The Reddies are second in the league in turnover margin (+5.5) and have forced 158 turnovers this year — the second-most in the GAC.

- Junior guard Chris Parker leads Henderson and is eighth in the conference in scoring with an average of 17.4 points per game. Parker has scored in double figures in every game this season and is fourth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (46.9%). Parker has scored 910 points in his time at Henderson State and is just 90 away from becoming the 26th player in program history to eclipse 1000 points in a career.

- Junior forward Raekwon Rogers has played big for HSU in the front court through eight games. The junior from Little Rock is fourth in the GAC in rebounding (8.3 per game) and is shooting 55.1% from the floor, which is the eighth-best mark in the league. Rogers averages 11.1 points per game in just under 23 minutes per contest.

- HSU boasts a remarkably deep lineup in 2019-20. Henderson currently has 10 players who are averaging 14 or more minutes per game and eight who are scoring five or more points per contest.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
- UAM enters Saturday's clash 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in the GAC. The Weevils started 2-0 in the league and were riding a seven-game winning streak, but much like Henderson saw that streak last Saturday with their first conference loss to Arkansas Tech, 75-70. Monticello is led by head coach Kyle Tolin who is 80-72 in six years at the school.

- The Weevils' top option offensively is senior guard Marcus Gilbert, who averages 15.2 points per game on the year. Gilbert has played 32 or more minutes in every contest this season for UAM and is shooting 52% from the floor. Fellow guard KJ Lesure is second in the GAC in assists (7.8 per game) and is also giving Monticello 14.8 points per outing.

- As a team, UAM leads the conference in scoring margin (+16.8) and is second in scoring offense (89.9 points per game) thanks to incredibly hot shooting (51.3%). The Weevils are also an excellent rebounding squad and lead the GAC in rebounding margin (+7.3). Monticello has a league-most 90 steals in nine games this year.
