Baseball Adds Six Pitchers in 2020 Signing Class

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State head baseball coach Cody Hooten has announced the additions of six pitchers to the program as a part of the 2020 signing class.

"Firstly, I'd like to thank assistant coach Alan Hall for all his hard work on this class of recruits," Hooten said. "It's a good balance of high end projectable guys mixed with guys that are ready to step in and pitch right away. We've got guys from big time programs that are used to winning and will do all that they can to win when they get here."

Landon Headrick | LHP | 6'9 | 240 lbs. | Greenbrier, Arkansas | Greenbrier HS
Three-year letterman for Greenbrier High School … Pitched 8.0 innings as a junior, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking seven … Threw 8.0 innings as a sophomore and gave up 12 hits and five walks with seven strikeouts … 82 miles per hour fastball velocity according to Perfect Game.

Coach Hooten on Landon: "Landon's best baseball is ahead of him. He's extremely tall, has good stuff and is an outstanding young man. His ceiling is high and we are excited about helping him get to that potential."

Cole Oswald | RHP | 6'3 | 155 lbs. | Springdale, Arkansas | Shiloh Christian
Four-year letter winner for Shiloh Christian School … Made 10 appearances on the mound as a junior where he carried a 3-0 record and a 2.49 ERA to earn All-Conference honors … Also a two-year letterman in basketball.

Coach Hooten on Cole: "Cole is another projectable arm. Long and lanky, but with a quick arm that will gain velocity as he fills out. Great student who will benefit the program in many ways."

Ethan Perry | RHP | 6'0 | 165 lbs. | McKinney, Texas | McKinney North HS
Three-time letterman for McKinney North High School … Received All-District and Academic All-Districe recognition as a junior … 83 miles per hour fastball velocity according to Perfect Game.

Coach Hooten on Ethan: "Ethan is a bulldog type that we believe can step in and pitch right away for us. His ceiling isn't as high as others in this class, but his floor is very high. His high school coach is former Reddie great Jim Gatewood."

Jayce Posey | LHP | 5'10 | 155 lbs. | Sparkman, Arkansas | Harmony Grove HS
Four-year varsity letter winner for Harmony Grove High School … A two-time 3A-7 All-Conference selection in 2018 and 2019 … Carried a 2.29 ERA, .967 fielding percentage and .290 batting average as a junior … 1.91 ERA, .994 fielding percentage and .338 batting average as a sophomore … .239 batting average as a freshman … 81 miles per hour fastball velocity and throws the change up 79 miles per hour … Excels as a four-sport athlete for the Hornets and plays basketball, football and golf along with baseball.

Coach Hooten on Jayce: "Jayce is a small town local kid with a chance to be really good. Has some athleticism, good stuff and pretty good feel for pitching. A real diamond in the rough that we look forward to getting on campus."

Ethan Roark | RHP | 6'4 | 205 lbs. | Flint, Texas | Frankston HS
Three-year letterman for Frankston High School … Earned Second Team All-District honors in 2019 as a junior … Carried a 1.65 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched.

Coach Hooten on Ethan: "Ethan is another in the class with a very high upside. Tall, with a good frame, he already has a good feel for filling up the strike zone. He is a great fit for Clyde Berry Field."

Tucker Sparks | RHP | 6'2 | 215 lbs. | North Little Rock, Arkansas | Coffeyville CC
Transfers in after one year at Coffeyville Community College … Made 12 starts for the Red Ravens and pitched 54.1 innings … Carried a 6.46 ERA and struck out 51 total batters … Was a four-year letterman for North Little Rock High School … Three-time 7A Central All-Conference honoree as a sophomore, junior and senior … 86 miles per hour fastball velocity.

Coach Hooten on Tucker: "Tucker is our lone transfer arm in this class so far. He had a very good freshman season at Coffeyville. We expect him to come in and play a huge role right away for us."
