GAME NOTES
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State goes for a program-record 12th Great American Conference win on Thursday night when the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to face Southwestern Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Cellular Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson tied a program record with its 11th Great American Conference win of the season last Saturday on the road at Harding. The Reddies raced past the Bisons 73-56 behind a 22-4 run to begin the second half.Â
- The Reddies (16-8, 11-7) are currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the GAC standings, along with Arkansas-Monticello and East Central. The top eight teams in the standings at season's end will advance to the GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
-
Chris Parker leads the Reddies in scoring (13 points per game) and was terrific last week in HSU's two victories. Parker had a game-high 21 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer against rival Ouachita, then followed it up with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists on Saturday against Harding.
- A win on Thursday against SWOSU would give Henderson its most wins in a single season under head coach
Jimmy Elgas in his four years at the school. 17 wins would be the most for the program as a whole since 2006-07 when the Reddies went 23-9 and won the Gulf South West Division.Â
- HSU has had a great deal of success against Southwestern Oklahoma in recent years. The Reddies have won the last seven meetings with the Bulldogs, dating back to the 2015-16 season, and have not lost to SWOSU during Elgas' tenure (7-0).
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA
- Southwestern Oklahoma State has had its struggles this year and comes into Thursday night's contest 4-20 on the season and 1-17 in Great American Conference play. SWOSU has lost six-straight games and 13 of 14 overall. The Bulldogs are 6-55 in conference games dating back to the start of the 2016-17 season.
- Despite their record, the Bulldogs have one of the most dangerous players in the league in junior guard Tre Evans. Evans leads the GAC in scoring (24 points per game) and excels at getting to the free throw line, where has made 213 trips this season -- 110 more than the next closest player in the conference. Evans shot a GAC-record 34 free throws in SWOSU's win over Harding on Jan. 26.
- SWOSU is last in the conference in scoring defense (84.2 points per game to opponents), field goal percentage (39.3 percent), and scoring margin (-11.0).Â
