GAME NOTES
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After securing a Great American Conference Tournament berth on Thursday, Henderson State looks to stretch its winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon when the Reddies take on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. in Alva, Oklahoma, in the final road game of the season.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (17-8, 12-7) notched a significant win in a number of ways on Thursday night by crushing Southwestern Oklahoma State 104-78. The win was the 17th of the season for the Reddies, which is the most in a single season for the program since 2006-07, the 12th league victory of the year, which sets a new record for most conference wins since joining the GAC in 2011, and also clinched HSU's spot in the GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in March.Â
- The Reddies have won their last three games and five of their last six overall. HSU is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings along with East Central and Oklahoma Baptist. Henderson will be making its first GAC Tournament appearance since 2015-16.
- HSU's balanced offensive attack has been a theme all season for the Reddies and continues to show at season's end. Henderson has four players that average double figures in scoring and three more who average over eight points per game. Twelve different Reddies have scored in double figures at some point this season.Â
- Henderson shot the ball exceptionally well in the first matchup with NWOSU back in January, which the Reddies won 85-73. HSU hit on 53.7 percent of its shots from the floor and outscored the Rangers 44-31 in the second half to pull away for the victory. Four Reddies scored in double figures in the first meeting, including
Mike Fofana, who had a career-high 23 on just 11 shots.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
- Northwestern Oklahoma State comes into Saturday's contest 6-19 on the year and 4-15 in GAC play. After finishing second in the league last season and being picked sixth in the 2018-19 Preseason Coaches Poll, the Rangers have struggled. NWOSU has lost seven of its last eight games and 11 of its last 14 overall.
- The Rangers are led offensively by sophomore Jack Peck, who averages 13.2 points per game this season. Peck has scored in double figures in 16 of NWOSU's last 17 games and also leads the Rangers in rebounds per game (5.5). Junior guard A.J. Jones is second in the GAC in assists per game (5.9) and is one of just two players in the conference with 100 or more assists this season in league play (112).
- NWOSU is last in the GAC in 3-pointers made this season in conference play (126) despite ranking fourth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (36.7 percent). The Rangers are 11th in the league in scoring offense this year (69.8 points per game).
