GAME NOTES
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After back-to-back wins over top teams in the Great American Conference, Henderson State looks to make it three straight on Saturday when it faces UAM at 4 p.m. in Monticello, Arkansas.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson is rolling into Monticello, Arkansas, on Saturday fresh off the heels of one of its biggest wins of the season against Southern Arkansas on Thursday night. HSU raced past the regionally-ranked Muleriders 82-63 thanks to big efforts from
Chris Parker (18 points) and
Raekwon Rogers (13 points, 13 rebounds) as well as 53 percent shooting from the floor.
- Since falling behind 25-2 in the opening 10 minutes to Southern Nazarene two weeks ago, the Reddies have found their groove. HSU out-scored first place SNU 62-45 in the final 30 minutes to nearly rally and defeat the No. 14 Crimson Storm, then crushed third-place Oklahoma Baptist 83-71 and raced past second-place SAU 82-63.Â
- HSU has gotten a big lift in the post from Rogers during its two-game win streak over the conference's top teams. Rogers put up a career-high 19 points and eight boards in the win over OKBU, then had 13 points and 13 rebounds against SAU. He has snagged 14 offensive rebounds in the last two games alone and is first in the GAC with 66 on the year.
- The Reddies will look to break through against UAM on Saturday for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Weevils have won the last five contests with Henderson, including the first meeting this season, which they took 73-58 in Arkadelphia. Saturday's matchup has GAC Tournament standing and seeding implications with both teams 9-6 in league play. A UAM win would guarantee the Weevils the tiebreaker over the Reddies should one be necessary at season's end. Both teams are tied for fifth in the GAC along with Southeastern.
SCOUTING UAM
- UAM comes into Saturday's game 13-8 on the year and 9-6 in league play. The Weevils have won their last three games in a row after dropping five-straight from Jan. 12 to Jan. 26.
- The Weevils are led by guard Austin Hardy, who averages 12.6 points per game and has scored in double figures 14 times this season. He has averaged 16.7 per game during UAM's three-game win streak. Monticello also has one of the best passers in the GAC in guard KJ Lesure, who averages 4.3 assists per game this season, which ranks eighth in the conference.
- UAM is second-to-last in the GAC in scoring offense (69.2) but make up for that with stifling defense. The Weevils are the league's second-best team in scoring defense (67.8 points per game for opponents) and are fifth in field goal percentage defense (42.7 percent).
