ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After falling in a heartbreaker on the road last Saturday, Henderson State will look to stay unbeaten at home this season when it hosts East Central in the Duke Wells Center on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (12-4, 7-3) fell in dramatic fashion last weekend in Russellville when they were outlasted by Arkansas Tech 126-122 in the program's first-ever triple-overtime game. HSU erased deficits of 16 and 12 points in the second half, then built up a lead of seven points in the first overtime period, but ran out of gas down the stretch. Chris Parker led Henderson with 24 points, while Chris Owens added a career-high 22 points and 14 rebounds off of the bench.
- Despite the loss, HSU remains in a tie for second place in the GAC standings through 10 games. The Reddies, along with two-time league champion Southern Nazarene, are 7-3, just a game behind first place Southeastern Oklahoma State who is 8-2 in conference play and will face Henderson on Saturday in Arkadelphia.
- Opponents are shooting just 38.9% from the field this season against the Reddies; a mark which ranks No. 5 in all of NCAA DII basketball. Henderson is one of just five teams in the country holding its opposition to a shooting percentage of under 39% from the floor. HSU is also 12th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.9% shooting for opponents).
- Henderson is 8-0 in home games in the 2019-20 season and has not yet been challenged in the Duke Wells Center. The Reddies' average margin of victory in home contests this year against GAC opponents is 21.4 points and their closest game came against Oklahoma Baptist, who they defeated 83-70 on Jan. 2.
- East Central had controlled the series with Henderson State over the last few seasons until last year's season finale when the Reddies broke a 10-game losing streak to the Tigers with a 91-82 win in the Duke Wells Center. That victory is HSU's only win over ECU since 2014 and the Tigers lead the all-time series 17-13.
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- ECU enters Thursday contest 12-4 overall and 6-4 in GAC action. East Central dropped both of its conference contests last week to Southeastern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene but had won eight of its last nine prior to those defeats. The Tigers are led by head coach Ja Havens, who has a career winning percentage of 65.6% in seven seasons at the school.
- East Central's top weapon is senior guard Camron Talley, who is second in the GAC in scoring with an average of 22.7 points per game this year. Talley has scored 20 or more points in 10 games and has scored in double figures in every contest but two for ECU. He is shooting 48.2% from the field and 43.4% from 3-point range.
- The Tigers are arguably the top offensive team in the league this season and they rank first in the conference in both scoring offense (88.3 points per game) and team field goal percentage (50.3%). ECU is one of just two squads in the conference which shoot 40% or better from 3-point range as a team (40.4%).Â
