ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will face one its toughest tests of the season thus far on Saturday afternoon when the Reddies take on two-time defending GAC champion Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies have performed incredibly well at home this season and now carry an unbeaten 6-0 record in the Duke Wells Center after dispatching Oklahoma Baptist 83-70 on Thursday night. Henderson has won every home contest this year by double figures and its average margin of victory is 26.8 points.
- Both Anthony Lupardus and Chris Owens have been red-hot from the field in their last several games. Lupardus is shooting just under 61% from the floor (14-for-23) in the last three contests, while Owens is shooting a scorching 73% (19-of-26) over a four-game stretch. Lupardus has also been sizzling from beyond the arc, where he has hit 15 of his last 25 attempts dating back to Nov. 30.
- Mike Fofana led HSU with a season-high 18 points in Thursday's win over the Bison. Fofana finished 10-of-12 at the free throw line, which was the most free throws attempted by a Reddie in a game this year. He does a bit of everything for the Reddies and averages 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
- Henderson has established itself as one of the premier defensive teams in the GAC this season. The Reddies are third in the conference in scoring defense (70.7 points per game allowed) and lead the league in field goal percentage defense (38.6% shooting for opponents). HSU tops the GAC in blocks per game (4.4), steals per game (10.1) and turnovers forced per game (19.3).
- HSU is 8-14 all-time against Southern Nazarene has has lost its last six meetings with the Crimson Storm. The Reddies' last win over SNU came at home on Nov. 17, 2016 when they defeated the Storm 76-72. Henderson nearly completed an incredible rally in the second regular season meeting between the schools last year when it fell behind 25-2 early before out-scoring SNU 62-45 over the game's final 31 minutes in a 70-64 loss.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- Southern Nazarene enters Saturday's showdown 9-4 overall and 3-2 in GAC play. The Crimson Storm have two NABC Top-15 wins this season but lost on Thursday to Ouachita Baptist 84-78. SNU is led by 12th year head coach Adam Bohac who has led the program to two GAC titles in 2018 and 2019.
- The Crimson Storm boast one of the best backcourts in the nation in the form of senior guards Jonathan Dunn and Micah Speight. Dunn, the 2018 GAC Player of the Year, has proven to be one of the top players in the country and is third in all of NCAA DII in scoring (28.2 points per game) while shooting a remarkable 55.6% from the floor. He has scored 25 or more points in all but one game this year for SNU. Speight, last season's GAC Tournament MVP, averages 19.5 points and 5.1 assists per game and shoots just under 43% from the 3-point line.Â
- SNU is the top 3-point shooting team in the conference has taken more threes (383) and made more threes (149) than any other team in the league. The Crimson Storm average 12.4 made 3-pointers per game. Of Southern Nazarene's 383 total attempts, 225 of them have come from the combination of Dunn and Speight.
