Men's Basketball Aims for Sweep of Rival OBU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. —  Henderson State will make the short trek across U.S. Highway 67 on Thursday night to face off with Ouachita Baptist in the second Battle of the Ravine matchup of the year at 7:30 p.m. in Bill Vining Arena.

REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies dropped a heartbreaker last Saturday when they fell to UAM 81-80 in their first home loss of the season. HSU's last five defeats have come by a combined 14 points and both of its last two losses have come by a single point to the Weevils and Oklahoma Baptist. Henderson remains in a tie for third place in the GAC standings alongside East Central.

- HSU has four players currently averaging double figures in scoring: Chris Parker (15 points per game), Rel Johnson (11.7 points per game), Raekwon Rogers (11.3 points per game) and Anthony Lupardus (10 points per game). The Reddies have four other players averaging five or more points per contest. As a team, Henderson is third in the GAC in scoring offense (84 points per game).

- Defense has been the key for the Reddies this season and they lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (40% shooting for opponents) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.2% shooting for opponents). HSU locked down the 3-point line in its first matchup with OBU back in November when it held the Tigers to just 4-of-23 shooting from beyond the arc.

- The Reddies are just 4-5 on the road this season but winning away from home has been a struggle for virtually every team in the GAC. Only Southern Nazarene (6-4) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (4-4) have road records of .500 or better this season. The top half of the GAC is a combined 56-8 at home in 2019-20 and road teams are winning less than 37% of the time this year when factoring in the entire conference.

- Henderson rolled past Ouachita in the teams' first meeting of the year, 88-66. The Reddies shot 58.6% from the floor and had five different players score in double figures in what was their third-straight victory over their crosstown rival. HSU's current three-game win streak over OBU is its longest of the last decade.

SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- The Tigers enter Thursday night's rivalry showdown 10-11 overall and 7-9 in the GAC. OBU has won three of its last four games and is battling for the eighth and final spot in the GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Mar. 5-8.

- Ouachita is led by guards Trey Harris and Allie Freeman, who average 11.9 and 11.6 points per game, respectively. Freeman is the top 3-point shooter in the GAC percentage-wise and has hit 33 of his 70 attempts from beyond the arc this season (48.6%). Forward Kendarious Smith leads the team with 4.9 rebounds per game and is the GAC's best free throw shooter with just seven misses all season (87.9%).

- As a team, OBU is 10th in the conference in scoring offense (70.3 points per game) but fourth in scoring defense (71.4 points allowed per game). The Tigers are the top free throw shooting team in the league and collectively hit on 79.8% of their shots from the line.
