***NO FANS PER GAC POLICY***
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State takes to the road on Saturday afternoon and faces GAC Eastern Division front-runner Southern Arkansas at 2 p.m. in Magnolia, Arkansas.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies righted the ship on Thursday night at home against Arkansas Tech with an 82-78 win. HSU shot 56% from the floor in the second half and was 20-of-23 at the line. Four players finished in double figures for Henderson, including Raekwon Rogers, who had 22 points, seven boards and four assists, and Damian Dear, who scored all 16 of his points in the second half.
- Rogers has been phenomenal for Henderson in his last three games. The senior from Little Rock Central High School has scored 60 points in those three contests on 63% shooting from the floor. Rogers now leads HSU in scoring and rebounding with 14.6 points and nine boards per game. He is Top-10 in the GAC in rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots, and 16th in scoring.
- Henderson currently has four players averaging double figures in scoring and a fifth averaging just under 10 points per game. HSU is fifth in the GAC in scoring offense (76.4 points per game) and sixth in team field goal percentage (43.6% shooting).
- Opponents' hot shooting continues to hurt the Reddies. Henderson's opposition is shooting 39.7% from behind the 3-point line this season and 44.3% from the floor. In three of its five games thus far, HSU has seen an opponent hit 11 or more 3-pointers. SAU was the culprit in one of those contests and knocked down 11 of its 23 attempts from long distance in its 83-77 season-opening win in Arkadelphia.Â
- Victories over SAU in Magnolia have been tough to come by for the Reddies in recent times. Henderson has won just once in its last six trips to the W.T. Watson Center dating back to 2015. Saturday is the 184th meeting all-time between the two programs.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- Southern Arkansas proved its top preseason ranking through the first round of GAC play and sits on top of the Eastern Division standings with a 4-1 record. SAU's lone loss came on the road at Arkansas Tech.
- The Muleriders boast one of the deadliest one-two punches in the league in brothers Devante and Jalen Brooks, who are both making their early cases for GAC Player of the Year. Devante Brooks leads SAU in scoring (16.2 points per game) on an astronomical 67.3% shooting from the floor, while Jalen Brooks averages 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
- SAU ranks near the top of the GAC in several key defensive categories. The Muleriders are first in field goal defense (39.7%), second in scoring defense (64.2 points per game), second in rebounding defense (31.4 per game) and third in 3-point field goal defense (30.3%). SAU struggles at the line, however, and is shooting just 61.1% as a team.
