***NO FANS PER GAC POLICY***
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Fresh off a monster win over its rival, the Henderson State men's basketball team travels to Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday night to take on first-place UAM at 6 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson got back on track in a big way on Monday night when it crushed rival Ouachita Baptist 96-67 at home. The Reddies shot 50% from the floor and hit 14 3-pointers in the win. HSU's 29-point margin of victory was its largest over the Tigers since 2002-03 and the largest by either team in the series since 2008.
- Malik Riddle reclaimed the mantle of HSU scoring leader after dropping a career-high 32 points on Monday against Ouachita. Riddle was 11-of-17 from the floor and hit six 3-pointers. He is now averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting over 40% from 3-point range this season. Riddle is currently the only player in the GAC to rank in the Top-10 in points per game, rebounds per game (6.9) and 3-point field goals made (17).
- As a team, HSU ranks fifth in the GAC in scoring offense (77.7 points per game), field goal percentage (44.4% shooting) and field goal percentage defense (41.8% for opponents). The Reddies lead the league in rebounds per game (40) among teams who have played six or more games, and are third in the conference in rebounding margin (+5.1).
- After struggling to defend the 3-point line through its first five games, Henderson has been lock-down on the perimeter in its last two contests. In its last two games, HSU has held opponents to 13-of-49 shooting (26.5%) from beyond the arc. The Reddies' opposition was 48-for-121 (39.6%) in their first five outings.Â
- The Reddies will be looking to end a long run of misfortune in Monticello on Thursday night. HSU has not won in Steelman Field House against the Weevils since Jan. 31, 2015. In last season's road matchup with UAM, Henderson led by as many as 19 points in the first half but saw the Weevils rally in the second to win it 86-82.Â
SCOUTING UAM
- UAM comes roaring into Thursday's contest having won three of its last four games, including a 78-64 dismantling of first-place Southern Arkansas on Monday. The Weevils now hold the top spot in the GAC Eastern Division with a 5-2 record. Monticello is 3-0 at home this year.
- The Weevils are atop the league in several statistical categories. They rank first in scoring margin (+10.9), 3-point field goal percentage (42.9%) and free throw percentage (77.6%), and second in field goal percentage defense (40.5%) and turnover margin (+3.71).Â
- Miles Daniels has proven to be a huge weapon for UAM this season. Daniels has hit over half of the Weevils 3-pointers this year (29) and is shooting an absurd 51.3% on his shots from beyond the arc. Daniels is one of just three players in NCAA Division II who is averaging four or more 3-pointers per contest. He has taken six or more 3-pointers in every game this year and made 50% or better in five of his seven games played.
