ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State looks to extend its winning streak to four games on Thursday when it takes on Harding at 7:30 p.m. in the final regular season game at the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson enters its last regular season home game riding high and on a three-game win streak after defeating rival Ouachita Baptist for the third time this year 82-75 on Monday night. The Reddies made a school-record 36 free throws in the game and took 47 shots at the line compared to just 12 for the Tigers.
- The Reddies (8-7) have won five of their last seven games overall and have not lost to anyone other than SAU or UAM since Jan. 14. HSU is officially locked into the No. 3 seed in the Great American Conference Tournament next week and will host a first round game at the Duke Wells Center on Monday against a to-be-determined No. 6 seeded opponent.
- HSU continues to lead the GAC in field goal percentage defense and is two games away from finishing No. 1 in the conference in that stat in back-to-back seasons. Henderson is holding opponents to 41.1% shooting from the floor this year which ranks No. 22 in all of NCAA DII basketball.
- Offensively, the Reddies have excelled at attacking the basket and getting downhill to the rim, which shows at the free throw line. HSU leads the GAC in free throw attempts (349) and made free throws (258), and is third in the league in shooting percentage at the stripe (73.9%). Henderson's offense does not rely heavily on 3-pointers and the Reddies are last in the GAC in makes per game from beyond the arc (6.1).
- Henderson has not lost to Harding at home in the Duke Wells Center since Jan. 21, 2017. The Bisons have made the Reddies sweat the last two meetings in Arkadelphia, however. HU hit 10 first half 3-pointers and led by 12 at the break in last season's contest, and it took a last-second layup for HSU to beat Harding 75-74 in the 2018-19 season.
SCOUTING HARDING
- Harding comes to Arkadelphia on Thursday night 4-8 overall and in GAC play. The Bisons got their first win since Feb. 4 on Monday night when they defeated Arkansas Tech 75-71 at home in Searcy. HU's last scheduled trip to the Duke Wells Center on Jan. 30 was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.
- The Bisons have the top 1-2 scoring punch in the league in guards Ramiro Santiago and Romio Harvey. Santiago leads Harding in scoring (17.3 points per game), while Harvey averages 16.7 per game in his own right. The duo has scored 77 of the Bisons' 135 total points (57%) against HSU in two matchups this season.
- HU ranks seventh in the GAC in scoring offense (72.5) and 12th in scoring defense (79.2). The Bisons are the best free throw shooting team in the league (75.1%) and have hit 106 3-pointers in 12 games (8.8 per game). Harding hit 12 triples in its 88-79 win over HSU in January but made just three in the last meeting, a 71-46 Reddies win on Feb. 13.
