ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will look to win its eighth-straight game over rival Ouachita Baptist on Thursday night when the Reddies host the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. inside the Duke Wells Center. It is the first home contest of the new year for HSU.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies had their best shooting game of the year on Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma. HSU shot 56.6% from the floor and hit 11 3-pointers in the win -- both of which were season highs. 56.6% was the best shooting mark for Henderson since Feb. 6, 2020 against Southern Arkansas.
- HSU continues to thrive on the defensive end of the floor. The Reddies are No. 1 in the GAC in both steals per game (9.5) and turnover margin (+2.43) in conference play, and rank third in scoring defense (67.7) and field goal percentage defense (42.7%).Â
- Malik Riddle had his eighth double figure scoring effort of the season for Henderson with 17 in the win over SWOSU. Riddle scored 14 of those points in the second half and hit a season-high four 3-pointers. His last six double figure games have been with him coming off of the bench. Riddle averages 12.6 points in GAC action, which ranks 18th overall.
- Henderson has flipped the script on the rivalry series with Ouachita. From 2010 to 2017, HSU was just 3-10 against the Tigers, but the last four seasons have belonged to the Reddies. HSU has won seven in a row over OBU and nine of the last 10 overall.Â
- An eighth-straight win by the Reddies on Thursday would be the longest streak by either side in the 110-year history of the basketball rivalry. A Henderson victory would also tie the all-time series after 214 meetings. Ouachita currently leads the rivalry 107-106 with the first matchup coming in 1912.Â
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- Ouachita Baptist is 3-10 overall and 1-6 thus far in GAC play. The Tigers fell at home to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday night, 77-71 and have dropped six of their last eight games overall. OBU has one Division II win this season: an 82-81 overtime victory at SWOSU.
- The Tigers top scorer is junior guard Ma'Darius Hopson, who averages 16.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to lead the team in both categories. Ouachita also looks to senior Kendarious Smith, who averages 12.9 points per game and is one of just 16 players in OBU's 1000-point club for a career. Smith has not played since Dec. 14.
- In GAC games, Ouachita ranks ninth in scoring offense (69.4 points per game) and 11th in scoring defense (78 points per game). The Tigers are shooting 28.6% from beyond the arc against in-league opponents, but 44.7% overall. OBU is a strong offensive rebounding team, grabbing 28.9% of all offensive rebound opportunities.
