ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State looks to right the ship on Saturday at 3 p.m. when the Reddies host Southern Arkansas for a 3 p.m. tip at the Duke Wells Center.Â
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies are aiming to get back on track Saturday after a tough stretch against conference leaders Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist. HSU dropped back-to-back close games against SNU last week and then was burned by hot OKBU shooting on Saturday. Henderson is currently 7-6 in GAC play and is in sixth place in the league standings, just a half-game back of SAU.
- As a team, Henderson ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage defense (42.1%), second in turnover margin (+1.85), second in offensive rebounds per game (10.9) and third in scoring defense (66.2). The Reddies lead the league in steals (108) and steals per game (8.3). HSU is eighth in the GAC in field goal percentage (43.8%) and 10th in scoring offense (67.3).Â
- HSU has out-rebounded its opponents in each of its last three games, but came up short due in large part to the 3-point line. The Reddies have been more than doubled up from beyond the arc in their past three contests, hitting 12 while their opponents have made 26 total. For the year, Henderson ranks 11th in the GAC with 71 3-pointers made in conference games.Â
- Saturday is the 187th meeting all-time between Henderson and SAU. The 186th matchup was a thriller, as Henderson won 65-62 on a 3-pointer at the buzzer from Ryan Boyce earlier this season in Magnolia. HSU trailed by nine points with 12 minutes remaining in that game, but its defense stepped up and limited SAU to just eight points over the remainder of the contest to fuel a dramatic comeback victory.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- The Muleriders enter Saturday's game 12-8 overall and 8-6 in GAC play. SAU is 2-5 in its last seven games, but is coming off of an 81-65 victory at home over Harding last Saturday in Magnolia.Â
- Southern Arkansas leans on four players who have started every game this season: forwards Devante and Jalen Brooks, and guards Blake Rogers and Aaron Lucas. All four players average double figures in scoring this year. Devante Brooks is one of the top big men in the GAC and averages 17 points and 11.6 rebounds per game this season.
- SAU is a ferocious rebounding team and ranks No. 1 in the conference in rebounding margin (+4.8) and rebounds per game (39.2). The Muleriders have also been excellent defending the 3-point line and are at the top of the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.4%).Â
