Henderson Goes for Four Straight Versus Southeastern

COVERAGE LINKS | GAME NOTES | TICKETS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After posting its third consecutive victory of the season yesterday against Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State will look to ride this hot streak into Thursday's home contest against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Tip-off from inside the Duke Wells Center is set for 7:30 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson fell behind by three with 2:58 remaining in the second half of Tuesday's matchup against the Tigers before Malik Riddle strung together six straight points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:28 left in regulation, to lift HSU over the top of its arch-rival, 62-59. Tomislav Miholjcic recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Alvin Miles secured his fifth straight game with 11 or more points while delivering at least five assists in four of the last five contests. Even more impressive has been Miles' performance at the free-throw line over the last month. After going 4-for-4 at the charity stripe against Ouachita Baptist, the Memphis, Tennessee native has now made 31 consecutive free-throws with his last miss coming back on Jan. 14 against Southwestern Oklahoma State.

With Tuesday's victory over the Tigers, head coach Jimmy Elgas tied Rand Chappell for the second most wins in program history with 120. A win on Thursday would put him in sole possession of second behind Henderson's basketball court's namesake Don Dyer, who won 316 games from 1963-1978.

Henderson St. is now tied for seventh with Ouachita Baptist at 8-10 in conference play and is one game out of fifth place in the GAC standings. What the Reddies have riding for them is, with all the teams whom HSU will be competing against for those last couple of spots, Henderson owns the tiebreaker against all of them. In addition, two of the red-and-gray's final four opponents are either at or below .500 in league play currently.

The last time HSU faced Southeastern Oklahoma State in Arkadelphia, the Reddies came out on top, 84-73, thanks to shooting 52.3 percent (34-65) from the field. In fact, during Elgas' eight years at the helm of the program, Henderson has only lost to the Savage Storm inside the Duke Wells Center once with the lone loss coming back on Feb. 28, 2019.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
After enjoying a six-game winning streak that including beating Henderson St., Southeastern Oklahoma St. has dropped two of their last three games, all of which have come at home. Most recently, SE lost to rival East Central, 69-63, as the Savage Storm managed to make just three three-pointers on 23 attempts.

Sitting at 12-6 in conference play, Southeastern will clinch a spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament with a win over the Reddies Thursday. The Savage Storm have made five consecutive postseason conference tournaments prior to this season. 2016-17 was the last season SE was not present at the end-of-year tournament.

Southeastern is still the conference's top scoring offense by a whopping eight points, averaging 85.3 points per game, which is 15th in NCAA Division II. A large chunk of those points is courtesy of SE's GAC-leading 10.5 made three-pointers per contest, which also ranks 15th in DII. Through 23 games this season, when the Savage Storm have made nine or more three-pointers, they are 10-3. When making fewer, they are 5-5. On the year, HSU is allowing opponents to make 8.6 triples per game.
