ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State men's basketball coach Jimmy Elgas was one of 93 coaches from around the country selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA College Basketball Academy this week in Memphis, Tennessee.

The coaching staffs, which were composed of NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and junior college men's and women's coaches and high school coaches, were selected by the NABC in coordination with the NCAA.

Elgas was one of just seven Division II men's basketball coaches in the country selected to participate in the event, one of two coaches from the state of Arkansas, and was the only coach from the Great American Conference and Central Region.

The NCAA College Basketball Academy serves as a developmental summer camp that pairs high-level basketball competition with life skills instruction. In addition to playing games, the participants attended courses about NCAA eligibility and compliance; the recruiting process; name, image and likeness opportunities; agents; the Transfer Portal; and the pathway to professional basketball opportunities.

Prospective basketball student-athletes could qualify to participate at the academy via one of three ways: the National Pathway, which includes the USA Basketball junior national team; the Team Pathway, featuring the premier 5-on-5 youth national championship between 24 of the country's best travel teams; or the Individual Pathway, where coaches were able to vote and select up to 400 players in the classes of 2024, 2025 and 2026 to be placed on teams and compete.

Elgas served as a coach for the Individual Pathway, where he coached one of the 48 teams that competed head-to-head from July 24-27. This was his second time as a staff member at the NCAA Basketball Academy following his appearance at the inaugural event in Houston during the summer of 2019.
