Henderson State to Host Arkansas Tech in Final Home Contest of 2025

2025-26 Men's Basketball Game Notes

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State returns to the Duke Wells Center Thursday for the final home contest of 2025. The Reddies will host Arkansas Tech at 7:30 p.m.

Henderson State bounced back from Thursday's heartbreaking loss to Southeastern Oklahoma with a 75-51 win over East Central on Saturday. The Reddies started the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 25 points in the second half.

Senior guard Xavier Owens scored the first 12 points of the game for Henderson in Saturday's win and earned GAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 18 points and 5.5 rebounds in last week's games. Owens currently leads the team in field goal percentage, making 63.5 percent of shots he has taken.

The Reddies are first in the GAC in effective field goal percentage, a stat that gives more weight to three-pointers than a traditional field goal rate. HSU also leads the league in true field goal percentage and continues to pace the league in scoring offense, despite not scoring more than 75 points in either game last week.

Thursday's matchup is the 180th all-time meeting between Henderson and Arkansas Tech in basketball. The Reddies hold a 93-86 record against the Wonder Boys, while ATU leads the series 16-14 since both teams joined the Great American Conference.

Scouting Arkansas Tech

Arkansas Tech went undefeated in its opening weekend of GAC play, defeating Northwestern and Southwestern Oklahoma. The Wonder Boys stepped back into non-conference play Tuesday, defeating Ecclesia 94-51.

ATU dominates the defensive glass, averaging 27.9 defensive rebounds per contest, best in the GAC. They have also been one of the best three-point shooting teams in the early season; Tech ranks third in three-point shooting percentage (35.2 percent) and fourth in opponent three-point field goal percentage (27.9 percent).

Tech's offense is lead by junior transfer David Elliot IV. The Cal State-San Bernandino transfer leads the team in both points (13.8) and assists (2.5) per game. Elliot also has the most made field goals and three-pointers of any Wonder Boy.
