Reddie Men's Basketball Set to Travel to Southern Arkansas

2025-26 Men's Basketball Game Notes

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State men's basketball will travel to Magnolia on Thursday for the first matchup of the season against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff from WT Watson Athletic Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Reddies were held to a season-low 57 points in Saturday's loss at Harding. HSU now ranks 10th in scoring offense in conference-only games after leading the league entering GAC play.

Despite scoring less than 75 points per game in GAC play, Henderson continues to pace the league in field goal percentage. The Reddies are shooting 49.6 percent from the field as a team, with a majority of those field goals coming from inside the three-point line. HSU ranks 11th of 12 GAC teams with just 52 made three-point field goals through ten games.

HSU has several players that rank in the top ten in the GAC in multiple statistical categories: junior Zaveion Okoh is third in the league in scoring and second in steals, while senior Xavier Owens remains the best in the conference in three-point percentage. Junior Tyson Whybrew ranks ninth in the GAC with 6.3 rebounds per game.

Scouting Southern Arkansas

Southern Arkansas comes into Thursday's game on the heels of a double-overtime
victory at Arkansas Tech on Monday. The Muleriders used five different players scoring in double figures, including a double-double from freshman Roderick Williams, Jr.

SAU has gotten off to a solid start in conference play at 2-1. Their lone loss was to sixth-ranked Southern Nazarene, and they boast a win over then-15th Oklahoma Baptist before Monday's thrilling win. Overall, Southern Arkansas is 5-4 on the young season, boasting wins over Bemidji State, Mississippi College, and UT-Dallas in nonconference play.

The Muleriders rank second in the GAC in scoring offense this season, averaging 82.8 points per game through nine contests. They also lead the league in three-point field goal percentage and rank second in free throw percentage.
