Owens Earns GAC Player of the Week Honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Henderson State senior guard Xavier Owens was named GAC Player of the Week on Monday for games played from December 1st through 7th. Owens becomes the second Reddie in as many weeks to earn the honor, following Zaveion Okoh's honor last week.

The Houston, Texas native had 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists on seven-of-nine shooting in Thursday's 74-70 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma, a game in which he tied for the team lead in both points and rebounds. He followed that up with an 18-point, five-rebound effort in Saturday's win over East Central. Owens was the story of the game early Saturday, scoring the first eight points of the game and the first 12 points for the Reddies. He currently leads the team in both field goal percentage (63.3 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (75 percent).

Reddie men's basketball returns to the court on Thursday, December 11th to face GAC rival Arkansas Tech. Tip-off from the Duke Wells Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
