Reddies Sweep GAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.  —  After sweeping its weekend slate against Oklahoma Baptist and No. 20 Southern Nazarene, Henderson State swept the Great American Conference's weekly men's basketball awards on Monday. Rondae Hill was named the GAC Player of Week, and Jamarion Brown claimed GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Hill became the first freshman to win the GAC Player of the Week Award since 2022 after averaging 28.5 points per game against the second-place Bison and the first-place Crimson Storm. The Shreveport, Louisiana, native posted 28 points versus OKBU on Friday before tallying 29 points in Sunday's matchup with No. 20 SNU. The latter scoring total serves as the most points scored by a freshman in a single GAC game this season. During the Reddies' two victories this weekend, Hill boasted a 3.5 assist-to-turnover ratio while shooting 50 percent or better from both the field and three-point range.

Brown recorded a combined plus-minus rating of plus-25 against Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene, including a team-best plus-18 rating in HSU's win over the Bison. He collected five steals during this weekend's games, including four against the nationally-ranked Crimson Storm. The junior from Mount Pleasant, Texas, also tallied nine rebounds across the two victories.

With Monday's announcement, Hill became the first Reddie player to be named a GAC Player of the Week Award recipient during the 2024-25 campaign. Brown serves as Henderson's second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week Award winner (following Tim McDonald) and third such honoree overall this season.

Rondae, Jamarion, and their teammates will host their final home game of the season at the Duke Wells Center on Thursday, February 27. The Reddies' Senior Night showdown with Arkansas Tech will tip off at 7:30 p.m. A ceremony celebrating HSU's basketball seniors will take place before the men's game on Thursday night.
