HSU Set to Battle SWOSU in Early Afternoon Meeting

MBB GAME NOTES: VERSUS SOUTHWESTERN FEBRUARY 8, 2025

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Reddies look to bounce back versus Bulldogs on the road in the final extended road trip of the season.
 
In their last matchup versus the Bulldogs the Reddies pulled away in the second half, outscoring SWOSU by 11 in the second half, winning 87-78. In that meeting Rondae Hill led all scorers with 18 points while shooting 7-12 from the field.
 
The Reddies dominated in points in the paint and second chance points, outscoring the Bulldogs 48-36 off points in the paint and 17-8 off second chance points. As a team the Reddies shot 56.5 percent from the field and connected on 10 three pointers, a season high in conference play.
 
The Reddies currently rank 23rd in the country in field goal percentage and 42nd in the country in bench points per game. The Reddies also rank second in the conference in team field goal percentage during conference play while ranking fourth in offense.
 
Henderson State remains one of the best rebounding teams in the conference. The Reddies are averaging 34.5 rpg while holding opponents to 31.6 rpg in conference play. A +2.9 margin is good for third best in the conference.
 
The Bulldogs are currently 9-11 overall and 6-9 in conference play and are led by Brett Weiberg who is in his third season at the helm with an overall record of 19-29.
 
In their last outing the Bulldogs upset Ouachita Baptist 70-66. SWOSU held one of the nation's most prolific scorers to just 13 points on 5-22 shooting from the field on Thursday. The Bulldogs held the Tigers to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field.
 
Against the Tigers the Bulldogs balanced scoring moved the Bulldogs past the higher seeded Tigers. SWOSU had nine different players score, eight of which scored five or more points. As a team SWOSU shot 44.6 percent from the field and made eight three-pointers.
 
Southwestern is led by Tobias Roland, Roland is averaging 13.8 ppg on 49.7 percent shooting form the field and 40.3 percent shooting from deep. The Bulldogs have three players averaging double-digits. The Bulldogs also have the conference's third leading assist man MJ Warrior, Warrior is averaging 5.2 apg.
 
Southwestern defends the three-point line at a mark good enough for third best in the conference. The Bulldogs allow their opponents to shoot just 32.2 percent in conference play.
 
Players to Watch:
 
Star freshman Rondae Hill scored 21 points against Northwestern and dished out seven assists. Hill has scored in double-digits in 10 games this season and has posted 5+ assists in three-straight games.
 
Matthew Mayes scored 22 points versus the Rangers, a season high, on 8-12 shooting from the field. Mayes also grabbed five rebounds and collected two steals.
 
With an early start versus the Bulldogs the Reddies will tip off at 1 p.m.
