Reddies Welcome 14th Ranked Southern Nazarene to Arkadelphia Thursday

2025-26 Men's Basketball Game Notes

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State men's basketball returns to the Duke Wells Center for the first of two home games Thursday when it hosts 14th-ranked Southern Nazarene. Tip-off from Arkadelphia is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Henderson State returns home Thursday after a 1-1 road trip to western Oklahoma. After struggling from the field in Thursday' loss to SWOSU, the Reddies used a double-digit rebound advantage to defeat NWOSU 70-61.

The Reddies continue to lead the Great American Conference in field goal percentage, shooting 52 percent from the field this season. HSU leads in that category despite having made the fewest three-pointers in the conference all season with just 63, an average of 4.5 made per game.

While field goal percentage is the only stat Henderson leads the conference in, they rank second or third in several other categories. The Reddies are second in bench scoring, blocks, fastbreak points, and steals, while ranking third in the GAC in scoring offense, turnover margin, and turnovers forced per game.

HSU boasts two of the best in the league when it comes to forcing turnovers. Both Zaveion Okoh and KJ Sykes rank in the top five in the GAC in steals per game. Okoh continues his tenure as leader of the Reddie offense, with his 16.8 points per game leading the team and ranking fourth in the conference. Junior Tyson Whybrew ranks fifth in blocks and third in offensive rebounds.

Scouting #14 Southern Nazarene

14th-ranked Southern Nazarene split a two-game homestand last week. losing to Harding before soundly defeating Arkansas Tech on Saturday. The Crimson Storm were ranked as high as fifth in the country earlier this season, losing only to Harding last week and at Northwestern Oklahoma on a buzzer-beater.

Despite being the highest nationally-ranked team in the GAC, SNU only leads the conference in one category: turnovers. The Storm have committed the fewest turnovers in the league (142) and lead the league in turnover margin, forcing four more turnovers than they commit per game.

Southern Nazarene is a dominant rebounding team, boasting the conference leaders in offensive and defensive rebounds per game: Baron Bracey leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (6.4) and ranks second in total rebounds per game (8.0), while Tracy Godfrey, Jr. leads the league in defensive rebounds per contest (3.9)

Head coach BJ Foster is in his third season as head coach of the Crimson Storm. He previously served as the head coach at Cal State San Marcos, following three seasons as an assistant and stints at Biola University and Vanguard University.
