Men's Golf in Second at MSSU Fall Invite

JOPLIN, Mo. – Henderson State men's golf took to Twin Hills Golf and Country Club Monday for the first two rounds of the MSSU Fall Invite, hosted by Missouri Southern State University. After two rounds of play, the Reddies sit in second place at seven under par.

Arkansas Tech leads the field at -17, 10 strokes ahead of HSU. Northwestern Oklahoma State (-2), Southern Nazarene (+4), and Drury (+5) round out the top five teams in the 12-team event.

Alex Cuadrado and Colin Purifoy lead the way for the Reddies after each player turned in rounds of even-par 72 and three-under-par 69. Cuadrado used six birdies in the second round to shoot up the leaderboard, while Purifoy needed seven to undo the damage done by a double bogey on his opening hole, the par-three 11th. The duo is tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard through 36 holes.

Brandon Yabandith sits in a tie for 12th place after two rounds of play. The freshman turned in matching rounds of 72 to finish even par for the day: his opening round featured four birdies and four bogeys, with his second round yielding four birdies, two bogeys, and a double on the 11th hole.

Bailey Doe turned in the fourth score for Henderson on Monday, carding rounds of 74 and 73 to finish the day at three over for the tournament. The senior made six birdies on the day to go along with nine bogeys and sits 24th individually.

Brode Horton rounded out the team scoring for the Reddies; the junior led the team through round one after a two-under 70 featuring three birdies and a bogey, but a three-bogey stretch in the second round led to a 75 and dropped him into a tie for 15th on the leaderboard.

Everson Adams played the opening two rounds as an individual, turning in rounds of 77 and 78. The sophomore did manage two birdies in each of Monday's two rounds.

The Reddies are back in action for the third and final round of the tournament tomorrow. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
