Men's Golf in Second at Battle for the Belt

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A steady two rounds put Henderson State men's golf in solid position through two rounds at the Battle for the Belt at Hot Springs Country Club Monday. The Reddies sit at even par through two rounds of play.

Northwestern Oklahoma State leads the tournament at two-under par, two strokes ahead of HSU. The Reddie B-team sits in fourth place at 16 over, two strokes behind third place UAM. Southern Nazarene rounds out the top five.

Brode Horton leads the way for Henderson after 36 holes; the junior turned in rounds of 73 and 69; round one was a clean card with one birdie and two bogeys, and the back nine in round two was where Horton made the most of an opportunity. The Royal, Arkansas product started out with an eagle on hole 10, followed by five birdies and a bogey to shoot five-under on the second nine of the Arlington course. He sits in third place individually.

Brandon Yabandith sits just one stroke behind Horton at one-under par after rounds of 68 and 75. The Minnesota product, coming out of a win at the Magicians on the Green event, picked up right where he left off at the Reddies' home course, turning in six birdies and just two bogeys in the morning round. The freshman dealt with some adversity in the afternoon round, carding five bogeys against just two birdies.

Alex Cuadrado joined Horton and Yabandith in the top ten after consecutive rounds of even-par 72. The sophomore made four birdies and four bogeys in the opening round before a more colorful scorecard in round two, including an eagle on the par five 18th hole. The Spaniard finished the day in sixth place on the leaderboard.

Senior Colin Purifoy sits tied for 13th after the opening 36 holes. The Hope native scored rounds of 77 and 71, with a triple bogey hurting down the stretch in round one before a four birdie performance got him back into contention to help the team back into second place.

Cale Preston rounded out the scoring for the Reddies with rounds of 76 and 78.

For the Reddie B-team, Marcos Park led the way, sitting at one-over for the tournament after rounds of 71 and 74 and sits in a tie for seventh. Colton Rich is tied with Purifoy for 13th after consecutive rounds of 74. Drew Warmbrod finds himself tied for 17th after rounds of 76 and 73. Reece Johnson bounced back from an opening round 78 with a 73 in the afternoon round; the freshman is tied for 22nd. Bailey Doe struggled early, shooting an 81 Monday morning before a 73 of his own; Doe sits in a tie for 29th.

Everson Adams and Jack Seago both competed as individuals; Adams turned in rounds of 77 and 75, while Seago carded a 77 and 79 on the day.

The Reddies look to capture their eighth straight Battle for the Belt title on Tuesday; the team will tee off for the final 18 holes at 9:00 a.m.
