Reddies Prepare for Southwestern Oklahoma

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State men's basketball will host Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at the Duke Wells Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Henderson State snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday with a 75-66 home victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State. With the win, HSU secured a season sweep over the Rangers for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

HSU shot 54 percent from the field in Thursday's win, and its 75 points was the highest score in regulation since December 18, when the Reddies scored 80 points in a win at Southern Arkansas.

The Reddie defense was strong in Thursday's win, holding NWOSU to 34 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent from three-point range. Henderson also limited GAC leading scorer Max Alexander to 18 points, well below his league-leading season 23 points.

Thursday's matchup was a battle of two teams leading the league in forced turnovers: the Reddies (now third in the GAC) only had 14 turnovers against league-best Northwestern.

Scouting Southwestern Oklahoma

Despite a Thursday loss at Ouachita Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma is riding one of its better playing stretches of the season. The Bulldogs have won three of their last five games, including a home sweep of Arkansas Tech and Harding last weekend.

The Bulldogs rank third in the GAC in both three-point field goals per game and three-point percentage, paced by Kray Rogers, whose 37.6 percent shooting is good enough for 10th in the conference.

SWOSU continues to be paced by Ty Frierson. The junior, ranked 13th in the GAC with a 13.3 points per game average, is the only Bulldog player ranked in the top 25 in the conference in scoring. Frierson is one of only two players ranked in the top 15 in the conference in both scoring and assists.

Last Matchup: Henderson State struggled to find consistency from the perimeter and couldn't overcome a strong second half by Southwestern Oklahoma, falling 76-63. The Reddies stayed within striking distance early, trailing 39-32 at halftime, but Southwestern Oklahoma opened the second half with a run fueled by perimeter shooting to push the margin into double digits. The Bulldogs finished the game with 13 made 3-pointers.
