Reddies Host Southern Arkansas in Makeup Game

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State men's basketball will host Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at the Duke Wells Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Henderson State remains home for the third game in a four-game homestand with a Monday night matchup against Southern Arkansas. Monday's game is a makeup game from January 24th, when all GAC games were postponed due to winter weather across the GAC footprint.

HSU struggled from the field, shooting just 39.7 percent in Saturday's loss to Southwestern Oklahoma. The Reddies managed to make just two three-point field goals in 14 attempts while allowing the Bulldogs to shoot 60.9 percent of the floor and to make eight three-pointers.

The Reddies and Bulldogs went back and forth in Saturday's first half, with eight lead changes coming in the game's first 20 minutes. SWOSU used a 12-4 run to open the second half and create the lead that they never ceded.

The HSU offense continues to struggle in Great American Conference play; the Reddies are sixth in the league in scoring offense for the season. However, in conference games, Henderson ranks 10th in the league with just 66.7 points per game. The Reddies rank 12th in the league in three-point field goals made in conference play with just 54.

Scouting Southern Arkansas

Southern Arkansas finds itself in a similar position to the Reddies: in a pack of eight teams in the GAC within two games of each other. Four of the aforementioned eight will make the GAC tournament with four left on the outside looking in.

The Muleriders broke a five-game losing streak Saturday with an overtime win over Southeastern Oklahoma. The streak was the second losing streak of at least four games for the Muleriders this season.

SAU is in a similar offensive boat as Henderson, in that they rank in the upper half of the league in scoring offense, but when it comes to conference play the Muleriders rank just above the Reddies with 67.5 points per game. The Muleriders are shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.

Last Meeting: Zaveion Okoh scored 26 points and Henderson State used timely runs on both sides of halftime to pull away for an 80-70 victory over Southern Arkansas. The Reddies carried a 39-35 lead into the break after a 7-2 run capped by a Jameel Wesley II dunk and an Okoh dunk just before the horn. Henderson then seized control coming out of intermission, opening the second half on another 7-2 run to stretch the margin to nine and set the tone the rest of the way.
