Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at GAC Championship

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Henderson State could not overcome a two-day deficit and remained in sixth place at the conclusion of the GAC Championship at Forest Ridge Golf Club on Wednesday.

Arkansas Tech (+6) was the wire-to-wire winner, overcoming a late charge from Harding (+22). Southern Arkansas (+28), Southwestern Oklahoma (+29), and Northwestern Oklahoma (+36) also finished ahead of the Reddies, who finished with a score of 38-over par.

Cooper Williams boasted the low score of the day for Henderson, shooting an even-par 72. Williams had five birdies, including four in a seven-hole stretch on the back nine. The senior jumped 11 spots to finish 13th on the individual leaderboard.

Jacob Knowlton had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a one-over 73. The senior started his round with eight consecutive pars before finishing the front nine with a two-over 38 to finish 20th individually.

Brode Horton bounced back in the third round, firing a four-over 76. After two bogeys and a birdie on his first nine holes, the sophomore had a colorful card on the front nine, bogeying six holes to go along with three birdies. Horton, 15-over for the tournament, finished 31st individually.

Colin Purifoy was in contention for the individual title heading into the third day of competition, but struggled on Tuesday with a seven-over 79. The senior could only muster two birdies on the round, while seven bogeys and a double bogey doomed his round. Purifoy remained the highest scoring individual for the Reddies, finishing 11th after dropping eight spots.

Bailey Doe could not replicate Monday's success and finished with an 87, 15 strokes above par. Doe did record two birdies on the day, but it was not enough to overcome four scores of double bogey or worse.

Henderson now awaits the selection of the NCAA Central/Midwest regional tournament teams. The regional will take place in Big Rapids, Michigan on May 7-9.
