Purifoy, Reddies Lead after Two Rounds in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Henderson State got off to a hot start and never cooled off Monday, taking a dominant 14-stroke lead through 36 holes at the Magicians on the Green event at The Links at Pine Hill.

The Reddies finished the day with a score of four-under par, ahead of second-place hosts Lemoyne-Owen.

Defending GAC Golfer of the Week Colin Purifoy picked up right where he left off, shooting a tournament-best five-under 65 after a 68 earlier in the day. The fifth-year from Hope had six birdies in each of his two Monday rounds. Round one was marred by four bogeys to counteract those six birdies, but round two only featured one bogey. Three of the holes (#4, #6, and #10) were birdied in both rounds of the day.

Trailing Purifoy by just two strokes in second place is Henderson's Brandon Yabandith. The freshman turned in a bogey-free 67 after a first-round score of 68, matching Purifoy. The Rogers, Minnesota native birdied four holes in the opening round to go along with 13 pars and a double bogey.

Third place on the scoreboard belongs to Alex Cuadrado, who is playing the event as an individual. Cuadrado led the tournament after an opening-round 67, including an eagle on his sixth hole of the day, the par-five ninth. The Spanish sophomore turned in a one-under 69 in the second round, with two birdies and a bogey to go along with 15 pars.

Marcos Park, also playing as an individual, is tied for ninth after two rounds. Park carded a two-over-par 72 before an even-par 70 in the second round. The sophomore made an impressive five birdies in round two.

Brode Horton sits alone in 12th place after Monday's rounds. Horton was three-over in his first round before matching Park's even-par 70 in the second eighteen. Horton made five total birdies on the day: two in the opening round and three in the second.

Colton Rich and Bailey Doe rounded out the scoring for the Reddies, each sitting in a tie for 17th. Rich overcame a shaky first round 77, going one-over 71 in the second round, with three birdies and four bogeys.

Doe had matching rounds of 74, with a double bogey in each round taking away from what was a solid day of golf.

HSU will take to The Links at Pine Hill looking to secure the tournament; the shotgun start is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
