Henderson State's defense forced a season-high six turnovers, while the offense totaled 655 yards as the 14^th-ranked Reddies shutout Arkansas-Monticello by a score of 71-0 on Saturday afternoon at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Henderson State, 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Great American Conference, scored 50 or more points for the fifth time this season, while the defense recorded its first shutout since the Reddies blanked the Boll Weevils 47-0 on October 2, 2010.

The Reddies got off to a slow start offensively as quarterback Kevin Rodgers completed just 1-of-5 passes to begin the game.

However, the sophomore from Rockwall, Texas then caught fire by completing his next 18 consecutive passes as the Reddies scored 42 points in the first-half. Thirty-five of those points came in the second quarter alone. On the season, the Reddies have scored 132 second-quarter points while limiting their opponents to 37 points.

Henderson's first score came at the 4:06 mark in the opening quarter as Corey Chappell caught a 5-yard slant pass from Rodgers to put the Reddies on top 7-0.

Later in the first half, wideout Darius Davis had touchdown receptions of 4 and 16 yards, while Elliot Hebert grabbed a 5-yard pass to reach pay dirt. Kevin Nichols also added a 2-yard scoring plunge, before Robert Jordan made another highlight with a 69-yard scoring reception just before halftime.

Jordan has now scored in seven straight games dating back to last year's final game of the season against Ouachita Baptist.

With the big lead at the break, Henderson turned to the ground game in the second half as Jarvis Smith scored on a 41-yard scamper.  The senior from Drew, Miss. ended the game with 119 yards on 7 attempts.

Junior place kicker Charles Gonzalves had a career-high three field goals as he made good on kicks of 22, 35, and 24 yards.

Henderson's final score of the game was a 74-yard pass from Ryan Black to Raheim Alford as the Reddies went over the 70-point plateau for the second time this season.

Throughout the game the Reddies' defense came up big to set up several scores with senior linebacker Maxie Graham leading the charge.

Graham recorded a career-high 15 tackles and had two interceptions, while both Tim Llewellyn and Keaton Stigger also had interceptions.

Late in the fourth quarter, defensive lineman Randall Howard forced backup quarterback Trey Taylor to fumble the football and the 6-2, 240-pound freshman from Dallas, Texas rumbled 22-yards for his first career touchdown.

Rodgers ended the game going 23-for-30 for 326 yards and five touchdowns while Jordan finished with five receptions for 143 yards and a score.

Arkansas-Monticello, 1-5 overall and 0-4, was limited to 254 yards of offense with Damon Wicker having 70 yards rushing and 131 yards passing.

The Reddies will next travel to Searcy, Ark. to face unbeaten Harding University at First Security Field, Saturday, Oct. 13 with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
