Bailey Nets First Career Victory as Head Coach in HSU’s 101-58 Win over LeTourneau

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.
– The Henderson State women's basketball team made their home debut inside the Duke Wells Center on Wednesday night and they did not disappoint the home crowd as Henderson coasted to a 101-58 win over LeTourneau University. The win gives interim head coach Kaci Bailey her first career win as a head coach.
 
The Lady Reddies (1-1) controlled the game from the outset as they raced out to an early 12-0 lead. The Lady Yellow Jackets (0-0) were able to get as close as five points, 19-14, after the early deficit, but a 5-0 run by the Lady Reddies put the margin back to double-digits. Eventually, the Lady Reddies would extend their lead to 25 points as they headed into the break ahead by a score of 54-29.
 
In that half, the Lady Reddies shot an impressive 58% (19-of-33) from the floor. The solid shooting percentage was bolstered by the Lady Reddies going 4-or-7 (57%) from three-point range. Additionally, they were 12-of-17 (71%) from the free throw line in the half.
 
Krystal Beachum, Shareka Maner, and Destiny Smith all had big offensive first half's. Maner, on the strength of 6-of-9 shooting scored 16 points. Smith was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor on her way to 13 points in the half. Beachum's 4-of-4 from the free throw line helped her notch 11 points in the half.
 
With the game seemingly in hand prior to the start of the second half, the Lady Reddies did not relent in that final half as they went on a 21-0 run over the first seven minutes of the half to swell their lead out to 46 points, 75-29. From there, the Lady Reddies would maintain at least a 41-point advantage throughout before they ended the game with a 43-point margin of victory.
 
At the end of the game, all 11 Lady Reddies who played scored at least two points. Vanessa Pieper would join Beachum, Maner, and Smith in double-figure scoring as she finished with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
 
With limited minutes in the second half, Beachum added four more points to end with 15, Maner added nine points to end with 25, and Smith added three points to end with 16. Maner also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to give her consecutive double-doubles.
 
Defensively, the Lady Reddies forced 28 turnovers and came away with 18 steals. Alex Kochner led the team in that category with four steals.
 
The Lady Reddies will next be in action on November 20th as they will hit the road to take on LeMoyne-Owen College. Tip-off for the non-conference tilt is set for 5:30 pm.
