Lady Reddies Stumble at Arkansas-Monticello

Looking to build upon their recent conference win over Southeastern Oklahoma at home on Thursday night, the Henderson State Women's Basketball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the University of Arkansas-Monticello, but left without the result they were looking for as UAM defeated HSU 68-47.

The Lady Reddies (12-10, 5-7 GAC) held small leads on a couple of occasions early in the game, but the Cotton Blossoms (8-13, 4-7 GAC) took the lead for good at the 14:04 mark of the first half when Candace Virgadamo completed the old-fashioned three-point play to give UAM a 12-11 lead. The Cotton Blossoms would grow their lead to 11 points, 31-20, as they headed into the break.

HSU was able to improve upon their 26 percent (7-of-27) shooting in the first half to a 36 percent (9-of-25) effort in the second half, but the shooting woes were too much to overcome as UAM led by double-figures for all but 30 seconds of the second half.

The Lady Reddies were paced offensively by Krystal Beachum. The junior came off the bench and scored a team-high 14 points. Half of Beachum's points came at the charity stripe as she went 7-of-9.

Next up for the Lady Reddies is a road game against Arkansas Tech on Saturday, February 18th. Tip-off for the game in Russellville is set for 4:00 p.m.
