After dropping a pair of games on Friday, Henderson State rattled off four straight wins including beating Delta State 13-9 and Missouri Western 6-2, Sunday at the HSU/OBU Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark.
In the opener, Henderson scored nine runs in the first-inning and held on to beat Delta State for the second time in the tournament.
Henderson State, 5-3 on the year, collected 16 hits in the game including a grand slam in the opening inning by
Katey Gorsage.
Brittnie Dean had another big game with three hits, a double and a pair of RBI, while
Amy Halter went 3-for-5.
Also having multiple hits against the Lady Statesmen were
Amber Klug,
Amber Wilburn, and
Laura Beth Ray all with two hits each. Both Klug and Ray both had a RBI in the game.
Kasey Carlock pitched the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run to pick up the win for Henderson State. Carlock struck out three batters in picking up her first victory of the season.
In game two, Missouri Western broke a scoreless tie in the fourth–inning as Meagan Roemmich blasted a RBI single off the left field fence to score Kendall Sorensen who led off the inning with a single.
Henderson State finally got on the board in the sixth-inning as Klug led off the inning with a single to get things started. With one-out, Gorsage hit her second home run of the day as the junior from Rowlett, Texas drove a liner over the right-field fence to give the Lady Reddies a 2-1 lead.
Missouri Western forced extra-innings for the second time with a Meagan Roemmich RBI double in the sixth-inning,
In the Henderson eighth with Klug on second-base, Wilburn single to score Klug and put the Lady Reddies on top 3-2.
The Lady Reddies weren't finished as Gorsage followed with a run-scoring double, while
Ashley Ray and
Amy Halter also drove in runs with back-to-back singles to give starting pitcher Carlock a four run advantage.
Carlock easily finished the inning to pick up her second win of the afternoon. Carlock picked up the complete-game win allowing eight hits.
Both Gorsage and Halter had three hits each for Henderson, while
Ashley Ray and Dean had two hits each.
