Henderson State played three games on Friday in the Southeastern Oklahoma Softball Shootout in Durant, Okla. with the Lady Reddies picking up a 4-1 win over Drury.
Originally Henderson State was to play six games over the weekend, but inclement weather forced all the teams to play three games of Friday with the remainder of the scheduled games being cancelled.
After losing the opener to Emporia State 7-0, the Lady Reddies rebounded to beat Drury.
Amber Klug went 2-for-4 in the game with a pair of RBI, while
Ellie McMahen and
Ashley Ray had run-scoring doubles.
Melissa Decker went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits and an unearned run while striking out three batters and improving to 4-1 on the season.
In the final game on Friday against Angelo State, Henderson State took a 2-0 in the second-inning as
Katey Gorsage hit a two-run home run.
After ASU scored a run in the third-inning, the Lady Reddies scored a run in the sixth-inning to make the score 3-1.
In the inning,
Hali Kizer,
Laura Beth Ray, and
Ashley Ray all singled to load the bases.
Amy Halter then singled to score Kizer. However, Henderson could not manage another run as
Sarah Gipson hit into a fielder's choice and Klug lined out to end the inning.
ASU then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning as Morgan Spearman hit a one-out grand slam to win the game.
Halter led Henderson State in the three games going 4-for-11, while Klug was 3-for-11.
Henderson State, 6-5 on the year, will begin Great American Conference play next Saturday with a double-header at Ouachita Baptist beginning at 1 p.m.
