Currently in a three-game losing skid, the Henderson State Softball team traveled to Durant, Okla. to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State University, but were handed two more losses on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 2-0, and 8-6.
Game one saw just two runs and 10 combined hits as each starting pitcher was sharp throughout the game. Both runs were scored by Southeastern. The game would be scoreless until the Savage Storm (15-11, 7-3 GAC) broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning on a RBI double off of HSU's starter
Kasey Carlock. The junior right-hander would be touched up by a solo homerun in the sixth inning that game the Savage Storm a 2-0 lead.
A two-out single by
Amber Klug in the top of the seventh inning would bring
Katey Gorsage to the plate with a chance to tie the game with one big swing of the bat. Gorsage, who is tied for the team lead in homeruns with four, popped up to the shortstop to end the game.
After being shutout and held to just four hits in the first game, the Lady Reddies' (11-14, 4-6 GAC) bats came out scalding hot with five runs on five hits across the first two innings. Southeastern would score single runs in the first and third innings but trailed 6-2 after the Lady Reddies scored a run in the top of the fourth inning.
The four-run lead would shrink to just one run after the Savage Storm platted three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to chase
Melissa Decker from the circle. Carlock, who recorded all three outs in the fifth inning, became the pitcher of record after she surrendered the lead by giving up three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Trailing 8-6, the Lady Reddies would go quietly in order in the top of the seventh inning to end the game.
The Lady Reddies will look to return the favor as they conclude the four-game set with a doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma on Sunday, March 11th. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
