Carlock Shuts Out SWOSU; Lady Reddies Split Series

After taking 10 innings to decide a winner in the nightcap of yesterday's doubleheader, the first game of Sunday's twin bill between Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma State needed 11 innings for SWOSU to eventually come out on top by a score of 2-0. A game two win in which Kasey Carlock tossed a complete-game shutout gave Henderson State an overall series split.

The opening game was similar to that of the previous game the two teams played in as each starting pitcher was stingy in the circle and unwilling to let anyone score. Through the first seven innings of play the two teams combined for just nine hits, two of which were Lady Reddie (15-18, 7-9 GAC) hits.

Playing in their second consecutive extra-inning affair, both teams were kept off the board in innings eight and nine to put the international tie-breaker rule into effect once more. HSU's Melissa Decker was able to strand her inherited runner at third base in the top of the 10th inning. The Lady Reddies were also turned away in their half of the 10th inning as well pushing the game to 11 innings.

In that 11th inning, SWOSU platted a pair of runs to take the lead 2-0 and were able to keep the Lady Reddies from scoring in the bottom half to take the 2-0 win.

Game two featured another pitcher's duel with Carlock taking the circle for the Lady Reddies. Just one hit was recorded and no runs were scored on either side in the first three innings of play. To that point, the lone hit in the game belonged to HSU. The Bulldogs (21-8, 8-4 GAC) collected their first hit in the fourth inning on a one-out double, but Carlock would get a fly out and a strikeout to get out of the inning.

A RBI sacrifice bunt by Brooke Blackford in the bottom of the fourth inning scored the game's first run. The Lady Reddies would add two more runs in support of Carlock with RBI singles by Brittnie Dean and Katey Gorsage in the bottom of the fifth inning. Carlock would scatter five hits over the final four innings of the game to secure her second shutout of the season, in the process earning the Lady Reddies a split in the four-game series.

The Lady Reddies will now take to the road for a conference series against the University of Arkansas-Monticello starting on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 p.m.
