Game One Box Score --
Game Two Box Score
After dropping a pair of games to the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday afternoon, the Henderson State Softball team was back at it on Sunday afternoon, but fell twice more by scores of 4-1, and 4-2 as UAM completed the four-game Great American Conference series sweep.
The Lady Reddies (15-22, 7-12 GAC) out-hit the Cotton Blossoms (20-10, 8-2 GAC) in the first game, 10-7, but only managed to cross home plate once. That lone run came in the top of the fifth inning as
Amber Klug singled to right field, scoring
Ashley Ray.
All four runs scored by UAM came in the first inning. HSU's starting pitcher
Kasey Carlock would settle down after the rocky opening frame by allowing no runs and scattering four more hits the rest of the way out, but the early hole was too much for the Lady Reddies to come out of losing the first game 4-1.
Game two saw the Cotton Blossoms jump out to a 3-0 lead through four innings of play. A pair of RBI singles by Ray and Klug in the top of the sixth inning platted the Lady Reddies only runs of the game and pulled them to within a run, 3-2. The Cotton Blossoms would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to stretch their lead out to 4-2. A quite top of the seventh inning sealed the win and gave UAM the four-game sweep over the Lady Reddies.
The Lady Reddies will remain on the road next week as they will travel to Cleveland, Miss. to take on Delta State University in a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 28th. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
