Cleveland, Miss. - Having already played Delta State in three high-scoring affairs earlier this season, the Henderson State Softball team squared off with Delta for two more games on Wednesday afternoon, but the offense that was on display in the earlier meetings was not there in the twin-bill as Henderson State was held off the scoreboard in each game, losing 2-0 and 3-0.
The Lady Reddies (15-24) were limited to just nine hits over the two games as the Lady Statesman (14-17) got two tremendous pitching performances from their starters. Each starter for Delta went the distance.
Despite the pair of losses, the Lady Reddies also received some good pitching as the starter in each game avoided the big inning by only allowing single runs to cross the plate in the innings that the Lady Statesmen scored.
On the afternoon, the Lady Reddies were paced offensively by senior second baseman
Ashley Ray as she went 3-for-6 from the leadoff spot. Freshman
Amy Halter joined Ray with multiple hits on the afternoon after she was 2-for-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Lady Reddies will have the upcoming weekend off from competition, but remain on the road the following weekend as they will take on East Central Oklahoma University in a four-game Great American Conference series starting on Friday, April 6th and concluding on Saturday, April 7th. First pitch on Friday is set for noon.
