BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Henderson State men's golf team was forced to play their first tournament of the fall season in windy conditions during the 14th Annual Northeastern State University Golf Classic which was held on Monday, September 24th and Tuesday, September 25th at the Emerald Falls Golf Club.
Weather was not the only thing that the Reddies had to overcome as they were forced to play a man short with one of their golfers unable to participate due to illness. Despite the adverse conditions and circumstances, the Reddies would earn a tie for 15th with a two-day team total of 637.
A team score of 329 on the first day saw
Jared Black be the only Reddie to shoot a round under 80 as he closed with a 77 (+5). A day later, however, the team made marked improvements with all but one Reddie golfer turning in a score in the 70s as the Reddies would end the second round with a team score of 308.
Matt Jennings had the lowest round of the team in the second day with a 71 (-1). That round for Jennings was the tied for the second lowest individual score for the second round.
Rookie golfer Wess Webb played well in his collegiate debut. The native of El Dorado, Ark. shot an 80 (+8) on the first day, but lowered that number by three strokes on day two as he turned in a 77 (+5).
In the statistical breakdown of the tournament, Black and Webb were among the top 15 individuals in Par-4 scoring as Black was +2 on all Par-4s and Webb was +3. Jennings would end up as one of the top five golfers in total pars as he sunk 24 for the tournament.
The Reddies will next participate in the Lindenwood Fall Invitational which is to be held on Monday, October 1st and Tuesday, October 2nd.
