Reddie Golf Tied for First after Day One of The Battle for the Belt

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – After a slow start to the day, Henderson State golf finds itself tied for first after two rounds of play at the Battle for the Belt at Hot Springs Country Club. The Reddies had a complete turnaround, turning in a second-round team score 18 strokes better than their opening round score.

Jacob Knowlton had the best day of any HSU golfer, firing an opening round 69 and a second round 71 to sit at 4-under par through two rounds of play. Knowlton's 140 was good enough to place him in a tie for fourth place individually, three strokes behind Union's Andrew Westmoreland, who leads the tournament. The senior's opening round was marked by an impressive stretch of three consecutive birdies and four in five holes. The Cabot, Arkansas native carded ten birdies on the day: six in the opening round and four in the second.

Alex Cuadrado recorded the most significant improvement between rounds. After an opening round of 77, the freshman used six birdies en route to a second round 68. The Madrid, Spain native finds himself in a tie for sixteenth place individually with teammate Cooper Williams, among others.

Williams found his own improvements between rounds, shooting a 69 in the second round after an opening 76. The senior went from just one birdie on the opening 18 holes to five in his second trip around the Arlington course.

Brode Horton finds himself at even par through 36 holes, with a three-under 69 accompanying an opening round of three-over 75. The sophomore, playing in his hometown, birdied three of his final five holes of the day to counterbalance the three bogeys on his second round scorecard.

Colin Purifoy rounded out the Reddie lineup with rounds of 75 and 73. The Hope, Arkansas native's day was highlighted by back-to-back birdies to open the second round of the day. Purifoy finds himself in 29th place in the 71-man field.

HSU's "B" team also found success in Hot Springs on Monday and finds itself in seventh place in the 13-team field, ahead of multiple conference opponents. Drew Warmbrod led the charge for Henderson, firing a 4-under 67 in the opening round. He, along with Marcos Park and Everson Adams, each eagled one of the par-five holes in round two.

The Battle for the Belt will conclude after 18 holes in Tuesday's final round. The shotgun start from Hot Springs Country Club is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
