REDDIES SQUANDER 10-POINT LEAD, LOSE TO ATU 70-68

Box Score Willie Kirkland's layup with less than 2 seconds remaining lifted Arkansas Tech to a 70-68 win over Henderson State, Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.

Henderson State built a 67-57 lead with 5:47 remaining in the game, but the Wonder Boys went on a 13-1 the rest of the way to escape with the win.

The Reddies, 11-11 overall and 6-10 in the Great American Conference, had difficulties down the stretch with Arkansas Tech's full court pressure as Henderson State committed
seven turnovers in the final five minutes.

Arkansas Tech, 14-8 and 11-5 in the GAC, had a 40-39 lead at the break behind eight three points field goals including four by Kirkland.

In the second-half, Henderson State had a stretch making seven of eight field goals to build a 64-54 lead as Melvin Haynes hit a pair of 3-pointers and Andrew Ensley crashed the boards having four defensive rebounds during the run.

Kirkland then sparked Arkansas Tech by scoring 11 of his game-high 31 points while the Reddies failed to record a field goal in five attempts.  

Haynes and Ensley led Henderson State scoring 17 points each, while Peri James added 11.  Ensley completed the double-double with 11 rebounds, while Haynes was 5-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Henderson State shot 47 percent from the floor converting on 24-of-51 shots, while Arkansas Tech made 24-of-50 field goals for 48 percent shooting.

The Reddies will next travel to Southwestern Oklahoma to take on the Bulldogs with tipoff in Weatherford, Okla. set for 7:30 p.m.
