HSU vs Lincoln BOX SCORE
Henderson State belted out a season-high 15 hits and held off a late rally to beat Lincoln 6-5, Friday at the Southeastern Shootout in Durant, Okla.
Sarah Gipson had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Lady Reddies.
Amy Halter added three hits, while
Laura Beth Ray,
Katey Gorsage and
Hali Kizer had two hits each.
The Lady Reddies, 2-6 on the season, took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh-inning. Lincoln put together four hits in the inning with Brianna Akers blasting a two-run single to make the score 6-5.
With one-out and runners on first and second, Henderson State turned a double-play to end the game as Erin Sommerer hit a ground ball to Reddie shortstop
Shelbie Palmore who then flipped the ball to Kizer at second, with Kizer relaying the ball to
Kailey Johnson to end the game.
Henderson began the tournament with a 4-3 loss earlier in the day to St. Mary's.
St. Mary's took a 1-0 lead in bottom of the third-inning when Taylor Vidrine singled home Nicole Sardelich who belted a double earlier in the inning.
With one-out in the top half of the fourth-inning, Gorsage got things going for Henderson State as she singled and later advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Palmore. Gorsage then scored on a two-out single by Allison Waggoner to tie the game at 1-1.
St. Mary's then put together four hits in the bottom half of the inning with the big blow being a double by Sardelich to plate two runs.
Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, Henderson State tried to rally as
Laura Mabary led off the inning with a base hit and stole second. With one-out, Gipson reached on an error by Sarah Perez which scored Mabary.
After Gipson stole second Gorsage singled home Gipson to make the score 4-2. Kizer drove in Henderson's third run, but was thrown out at third to end the game.
The Lady Reddies will continue the tournament on Saturday with games against Angelo State and Missouri Western State.
