Henderson State belted out three home runs as the Lady Reddies swept a double-header from Arkansas Monticello 4-2 and 5-0, Friday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Amber Wilburn collected four hits in the twin bill including a home run, while
Katie Hulan and
Hali Kizer added home runs of their own.
UAM, 20-16 overall and 7-7 in the Great American Conference, took a 2-0 lead in the opener, but the Cotton Blossoms were shutout the next 13 innings of the double-header.
Trailing 2-0, Henderson State responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Laura Mabary started things with a single, while
Sarah Gipson walked and Wilburn singled to load the bases.
The Lady Reddies got on the board when Gipson and Wilburn scored on a UAM error. Henderson took the lead on a double-steal as
Kayla Williams stole home and Gorsage advanced to second.
Henderson finalized the scoring on a solo homerun from Kizer in the bottom of the third inning.
Williams earned the win for HSU in complete-game fashion, allowing two runs off four hits with four strikeouts and six walks in seven innings of work to improve to 10-7.
In the second game, Wilburn put the Lady Reddies on top with a solo home run in the second-inning, followed by an RBI double from Kizer in the third.
Hulan blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth after
Morgan South reached on a single and Gorsage
was walked.
Cagen Medlock earned her first win of the season tossing a six-hit shutout with two strikeouts and one walk.
Henderson State, 17-19 and 11-9 in the GAC, will next play host to Midwestern State on Tuesday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Dee White Field.
